Two of Boris Johnson’s senior cabinet ministers have talked up the possibility of securing a Brexit deal through some divergence on the rules in Northern Ireland, as the government’s rhetoric showed fresh signs of shifting ahead of crucial talks next week.

It's bullshit... They're just preparing the ground for when they say we tried to compromise but the EU wouldn't. The DUP won't have it & the ERG nutcases won't accept any form of deal. There's too much money & political equity at stake for them to change course now.

So it’s likely a red herring intended to give Boris an excuse for not asking for an extension & blaming opposition for not supporting a deal. Unless opposition passes a no confidence motion AND forms a GNU that will commit to a referendum before elections, no-deal is likely 2/2

While the EU has indicated that it would accept a NI-only backstop, are there enough MPs in HOC who would back it? Presumably, at least LibDems & DUP would not. ERG has stated only no-deal will do. Don’t see why Lab would given that its objections went beyond the back stop. 1/2

They should properly & honestly define it as compromise on Northern Irish lives so everyone can see how very little value they place on those in their glib bargening.

The only way to deliver Brexit is to leave NI in the CU/SM, it’s not rocket science, otherwise all other solutions break the GFA or undermine the integrity of the SM, one day someone in govt is going to have to wake up and realise this, Brexit=a legally divided UK
