BRITAIN needs a trade deal with Brussels to escape the 'suspended animation' seen since the 2016 Brexit vote according to Dame Carolyn Fairbairn, outgoing director general of the Confederation of British Industry (CBI).

The economy has gone into suspended animation while we resolve this seismic issue.Trade negotiations between Britain and the EU became deadlocked over European fishing access to UK waters and what level of state support can be provided to industry.

Brexit was never supposed to be a crisis, that’s not what your publication has been telling it’s readers for the last 5 years .Leave with no deal ! At least we know where ground zero is and can build on it ; even if it eventually purges the nation of an underachieving government.

Most of the big businesses are prepared already. What is concerning is that the UK has 90% of business `in house` and they don`t export. Hopefully this will change.
