Toto Wolff says an FIA medical report that warns about the risks of brain damage due to excessive porpoising shows changes are needed. 'A frequency of 1-2Hz, sustained over a few minutes, can lead to brain damage. We have 6-7Hz over several hours.' F1

A push by the FIA to change the 2023 technical regulations and lift floor edges by 25mm to help eliminate car bouncing has not gone down well with a majority of teams, who fear it forces an unnecessary and expensive redesign of their new car plans.

“There's all this talk of lobbying in either direction, but I think fundamentally, what are we talking about?” he said. Racing director Laurent Mekies said: “I think we need to be very careful when we speak about safety grounds. While porpoising has not been an issue in recent races, Wolff thinks it would be wrong to think the problem has been eradicated completely.

Let’s not forget that previous to this the FIA regs were changed to make Merc less dominant… The same is happening here with RB

Mercedes must fix their car, that is the point the other teams are making but Mercedes prefers rules change.

Raise the ride height, the only people putting Mercedes drivers at “risk” is Mercedes. They don’t want to lose their speed so they willingly put their drivers in this position and then complain it’s a ‘safety’ issue. They want to eat their cake and have it at the same time.

He is right Toto is talking nonsens and Lewis as well.

only way you going to solve this problem just stick to circuit racing and ban all street circuits

Jontys_Corner

Nice try… quite irresponsible of him to let Lewis and Geirge driver a dangerous car then…

Toto, it's called a motor race, OK?

Just build a better car…..Toto!!!!

Ooooh please just accept you are not the best team this year. And live with it. It’s getting boring now!!!🤬🤬🤬

If this is true the FIA have an obligation to intervine for sure.

Lmao Horner better be smart enough to say 'no comment' when they ask him about this hahaha

So pathetic.

Fix your car then

Only team principal I know off , that keeps yelling out loud that his cars are unsafe , yet expects someone else to fix it for him. He just admitted his car is unsafe to drive , so I guess the FIA should step in and park the Mercs. I would love to hear the crying over that one.

I have brain dmg from reading anything Toto says.

Stop complaining and fix your car then or raise your ride height. Lobbying to change the fundamental regulations because you messed up....all under the umbrella of 'safety'....pathetic man

I’m sure there are bigger risks to racing that are already accepted

F1 on the verge of joining CTE club

You built a shitbox , quit whining

Yeah, Charlie Chaplain proved that those GERMANs know a thing or two about bouncing. Oops ... I meant porpoising! 😃 F1 | Porpoising | Motorsport

1-2 Hz, pretty sure I shag with a faster frequency than that. Totcedes really know they fucked up the car and can't fix it in this cost cap era😂

Guys remember next time when drive your car and you go over a speed bump, you get brain damage...

Hay coches que no lo tienen, porque han hecho su trabajo o porque han subido el coche lo cual disminuye el rendimiento. Si tanto le preocupan sus pilotos, que suba el coche

Frequency is one component. Frequency, displacement, and duration lead to the level of 'impact'. Ex: 1-2 Hz with 5mm displacement has different impact than 6-7Hz with 0.5mm displacement. I have no idea which is worse for a human over time, but it is definitely different.

The cars have always been bouncing, this year a more extreme for certain teams. So Toto just said he puts his drivers health at risk by having the worst porpoising at Baku etc

Then FIA must only apply Rules on Mercedes only right toto since you guys are heavily affected by porpoising issue. If the majority of team are fine with their cars then there's no need to bragging the same thing & speak for everyone who respectfully disagreed by most of team.

lift the car, Toto.

Merc can always raise the ride height to avoid porpoising.

Then lift your freaking car.

Toto Who ? Ooww, the smiley guy in the MercedesAMGF1 pitbox , Jack of all trades, master of none. Where would F1 be without him 😂😂😂😂 Bless Toto

Hideous to watch and hate to think what drivers are experiencing. Took way too long for fia to step in on this. I still think they need to produce a proof of concept car. Illegal floors and plank mountings ‘allow’ RB and Ferrari drivers to take the beating.

Just lift your car a bit, Toto! Problem solved

Hahahahaha. Hopefully the British media will not fall for this. 🙈 get a grip and condemn him and MERC!

George ya esta medio loco

Toto and milton..raise your car height until the frequency is below 1Hz..as simple as that..

Interesting, I said that during preseason testing. Your brain is inside an enclosed structure, bouncing up and down side to side bashing up against the skull. Who didn't think that was going to be a problem for the health of the drivers.

Mercedes gives you

Toto must have been driving the cars then, evidently

Hmm but it's your car that's the worst at it🤷‍♂️

sure

Might just be me, but I'm not seeing a whole helluva lot of porpoising nowadays... or at least, a damn site less than at the start of the season. I'd imagine that by the end of the season, porpoising will be all but gone 🤔

Ferrari's strategists do not drive.

Ban flexi floors immediately!

Just fix your cars Toto.
