Prepare for gloomy weather this weekend, as downpours are set to batter large swathes of the country.

Heavy rain is expected to batter the southwest coast, the northwest of England, and the Scottish Highlands, putting homes and businesses at risk of damage. Travel services are expected to be disrupted and drivers should watch out for slippery conditions and spray on the roads.Saturday is expected to start off dry but, from midday, rain will gradually spread northwest across the UK throughout the afternoon.Fields adjacent to the River Clyst in Clyst St Mary, Exeter Disruptive weather is expected to stretch on right into next week Met Office meteorologist Helen Willetts told Metro.co.

Ms Willetts added: ‘For many it will be quite a wet commute. It will really remain unsettled right into next week.’ In the past 36 hours parts of Devon and south Dartmoor have been hit by around 38 millimetres of rain – nearly a third of the UK November average of 121 millimetres.
