Boy so desperate to get into UK he strapped himself under British courier's van

The courier was shocked to see the boy had strapped himself to the van after fleeing from Darfur after his parents were killed

He assumed it was just the goods he was transporting rolling around in the sealed off cargo area and ignored it.The driver parked overnight in the car park at the Calais Ibis Hotel Tunnel Sous la Manche The teen, called Saudi, spoke English and said he was 18 but the courier believed he was much younger, around the age of 15.The boy had strapped himself underneath the vehicle by attaching a harness near the rear wheel

The driver said Saudi had sat under his van for hours while it was parked in the hotel’s car park after seeing the UK registration plate.‘He told me the French police had already beaten him up, there is quite a lot of violence in Calais,’ added Kyle, who has been a European courier for 12 years. ‘I was just so shocked. What can you say to that? He said his country is finished after the civil war so he had to leave.’

After chatting for around 40 minutes, Kyle dropped Saudi in the centre of Calais, gave him €100 and left his contact details.Kyle checked in on Saudi on Facebook some weeks later and was happy to hear he’d made it to the UK and was staying in a refugee hostel in Hayes, Hillingdon, west London.A grateful message from Saudi read: ‘Me now in UK thank you for your help I don’t forget you [sic].’
