BorisJohnson jumping on the climate change bandwagon is a sensible choice considering that oil is diminishing and good alternatives are still not mainstream. Even if people believe it is untrue, prudence calls that preparation for change is always a good move.
Ultimately, beyond innovation, what the UK does to cut emissions is almost completely inconsequential. Meeting the 2050 target really doesn't matter.
