Readers respond to the prime minister’s defence of his key adviser’s lockdown trip, and speak of the sacrifices they have made to follow the rules
Guardian = Fake news
What about kinnock and gething they broke the rules why is nobody going after them?
I say, that's complete twaddle and most unfair! It's a kick in the goolies!
Mines to be isolated from the Sunday before Mothers Day, and unable to go to church most mornings, & Sundays.
Leaving aside the spirit of the law and the letter of the law, having heard his explanations for the decisions that he made, could we not ask BJ to sack him because he appears to be an idiot?
I'm not sure a caring father should be putting his child's life at risk by driving for 30 minutes when he thought his vision was abnormal. Testing your eyesight by driving? Either the actions of a selfish madmam or a fabricated alibi. Either way both are pathetic.
Not me
Disgusting lack of empathy I mean he isolated for 14 days- He didn't go on crowded beaches, or have multiple visits like claimed, or stay with parents He simply drove a private car to an isolation location Witch hunt
Come on l am no Cummings fan but Prince Charles, Jenrick, McKinnock all took advantage and left London when it suited them.
Can we just establish here is he ‘on trial’ for breaking the lockdown under extreme circumstances or for being privileged? Think people are starting to blur that line and to punish him for having a spare cottage, that’s not the matter in hand!
stopthewitchhunt can we move now?
It's not a slap in the face, to coin Boris's phrase, he's just mugged the lot of us!
Give a rest the media today are out and out scum
What sacrifice? Isolation was a measure designed to protect us from a nasty virus. Reasonable people didn’t wait for “lockdown” to stay home and protect everyone . Apparently we need to have laws in place to respect some basic rules but don’t blame the government for that.
I thought he set out his reasons carefully and clearly. If the rest of us haven't read and understood the 'small print' in the guidelines, that is not his fault. I follow the guidelines to protect myself, first of all.
I'm Dominic Cummings let's all just do what we want , your losing the people Boris
No, it’s a slap in the face for you,The Guardian.
Its very clear that the devastating loss of loved one, agony of not being there when they died, attend funerals or help vulnerable family means nothing to Boris and co. Even though government policy was explicit they are saying we were fools for following advice, get on with it
The political elite believe the rules don't apply to them only to the peasants.
💯
no! it's common sense! Cummings doesn't brake any rule but the Guardian spread fake news (headline this morning)
Guardian readers thrive on being politically slapped in the face. It feeds their sense of moral superiority.Where was The Guardian moral outrage when Stephen Kinnock broke the lockdown ?
Rampant individualists in a time of social and collective crisis.
UK government is the laughing stock of the world, following closely up the rear of the US.
Pathetic that the press continue the witch hunt and waste their opportunity by all questioning Boris about Dominic Cummings. Get over it, and the fact your lynch mob tactics aren't working. Stop your politically motivated agenda please.
I think a slap in the face for Guardian readers might be a good thing.
That man as you say, made decision & was looking after his family! Exactly as we all do in this awful situation! Many people have made informed judgements recently but the vitriol towards Dominic Cummings is verging on hysteria!
‘Us’ being Remain voters
And what of Keir_Starmer’s silence over Vaughan Gething and family’s picnic by the seaside recently? No faux outrage, anger and MSM lynching over that eh?! 🤔
It is a slap in the face, but there is no excuse for the media to vent their anger by hounding him as if he should be hung, drawn and quartered. It is for the opposition parties to sort this out. No one voted for the media in any election!!
Wow, terrible Rag of a newspaper
I agree, it is a very welcome slap in the face for
