Boots staff feel 'unsafe' as shoppers still browse makeup

Boots staff have told the BBC they feel"unsafe" at work as customers continue to browse for hair dye and fake tan despite the coronavirus pandemic.

Her store had initially closed off aisles containing non-essential products and limited the number of customers allowed in – but she said those measures were lifted this week with no explanation given to staff on the shop floor. It is not alone in having to strike a balance between serving customers and keeping pharmacy teams safe - and Paul Day, director of the Pharmacists' Defence Association union, said it was"at the good end of the scale" when it came to protecting pharmacy staff.

"I know that this is a difficult time and we are doing all we can to make sure our colleagues have the NHS-recommended PPE available, alongside extra Perspex and plastic screening and social distancing equipment they can use," she said in a statement.

Harrogate store have closed off all non essential isles

Boots still putting customers and staff at risk.

PrescribeKindness

Tiktok202020 When will Pharmacy staff be rewarded for all their work and the bash their mental health has taken? Pharmacy is being continually overlooked even though if this closed the NHS would be in an even worse state than it already is. LOOK AFTER YOUR PHARMACY STAFF

Are they women ?!

They are buying trampolines, new pjs, duvet covers, TVs, books and a having a good old afternoon out in Supermarkets such as Asda and Tesco.

No surprise. I'm an engineer whocworks on the boots sites, I'll repair pharmacy fridges but refusing to touch their meal deal chillers.

I can tell you the flip side, I’m a customer advisor in Boots, we have had NHS staff coming in tears because they’ve had a shit day and all they want is their face cream or body lotion, maybe something to help their dry their skin,or even just someone to hear them and their needs

BootsUK surely you should not be allowing customers to do this? Especially since these items can be ordered online and be delivered via click and collect. Keep your staff and customers safe!

BootsUK I was in the Prescott store visiting the pharmacy and you still have idiots buying non essential items no separation your staff without masks, Shame on you! I asked to the manager not available apparently.

Was in boots getting medicine and asked if it was ok to buy toothpaste. Quickly got it and left. No browsing but buying perfume ain't essential. The branch I use has 'locked down' most of the store and limiting people in the store.

So why sell it it's not rocket science is it

So no one needs to buy fragrance? Why? Are we supposed to just rot? What is essential is relative. What about babies that are outgrowing their clothes with nowhere open to buy more? What’s wrong with putting makeup on to boost morale? Stop helping to further a police state!!

Why are they out shopping. FFS stay at home. Close the shops if we have to.

It mad but always be that sort. In 70's i worked i pharmacy. A sunburnt lady asked what makeup suitable . None. Answer was yes i can still remember it. I cannot not go without makeup ever. (Hubby said she puts face on before breakfast) never without the mask

In pharmacies in Malaysia there are signs over the makeup section that it is not “essential “, therefore not for sale. Online orders are still working though so that’s something

BWBootsUK close your makeup counters like supermarkets closed their deli, fresh meat and speciality cheese counters. Stop putting profit before safety of employees.

I work In the boots factory they will not let us wear protective masks saying it’s not government guidelines and we are all being made to work making no7 stuff when they Claim were keyworkers to make hand sanitizer- when a actually we’re not

BBCWorld put all stock away except for medical product and essentials. Surely that would deter people from browsing non essentials

In the Burnley store all the make up and perfume section has been cordoned off with black and yellow “crime scene” style tape. There is no chance you could access that area even if you wanted to

BootsUK BootsHelp Send all non-pharmacy and non-healthcare trained staff home. The peak of the virus is away to hit and you're still forcing staff in to work!

Who the fuck is still wearing makeup? You're lucky if I'm wearing pants!

Well close it off then, just have the pharmacy open...

The real question is why are Customer Advisers being forced to work. We have nothing to do. Only Pharmacy and Healthcare staff should be in and only Pharmacy and Healthcare counters open.

It's like this where I work as well. People come in and saunter around the shop aimlessly. And put random non essential items in baskets. Shopping lists people. Go in get what you need and GO HOME. I'm fed up with people breathing down my neck while I'm filling shelves.

There are people seriously struggling with their shopping addiction. It involves continually going around shops because they have boring livesbrainwashedconsumerism

Not long the public that care will get to thier pk of tollerance and smash them up. Its all about profit we know it, Boris knows it and still people are stupid enough to play the shopping puppet dance for them.

Tripenthat I went to a small independent chemist to get medication and wasn't allowed in. I was served through the door. 2hy the hell are people allowed to wander around the shop?

Well they should block off the non medical sections, like the big supermarkets are blocking off the household goods sections

Take it off the shelves sod your bosses remove whats not essential.

Those are the really dumb people, shopping for make up says it all! The insta and tic tok generation I bet!!!!

Section these areas off!

So close off non essential isles, that would stop browsing. Or say you have to have a list.

I was in boots today allthe make up is closed off u can still get hair dye etc shampoo body/bath stuff and toiletries but u defo can’t buy anything else

People are told by Gov't & Press, again & again, that most people will have mild symptoms. People thus go out & brouse makeup. Gov't infection led Herd Immunity strategy requires continued spread, albeit at a level the NHS can handle: Why does BBC find this so hard to understand?

Put up see through barriers on the tills for the staff to work behind like they have in other shops

Because they read the sensationalist fearmongering shit pumped out daily by your ilk. It’s a flu.

Shutting off the make up shelves & all other non essentials won’t solve this issue, they’ll shop online at amazon then it just gets busier for the warehouse workers/ couriers

Couldn't make it up!

Simple solution, cordon it all off, pharmacy supplies only !!

At least 12 staff all working everyday in one store, none are serving on pharmacy. Shop has been cleaned & stock tidied. Then the staff have nothing to do. That's at least 24 journeys on public transport per day that isn't necessary or essential in any way StayAtHomeSaveLives

Say whaaaaat 💪🏿

Woman 🙄

Important to look good while sitting in front of the tv doing nothing

As a store we only had opened pharmacy up. BUT NOW we are being ordered to open the whole store! Not only putting customers/patients at risk but staff as well! Not to mention going against government guidance for “only essentials” !!!

I’m a supermarket cashier...people are still browsing for bits...total lockdown now..

Boris doesn’t give a f**k. The quicker people die the better. Isn’t that right conservative ‘s?

M&S food is all that’s available at larger stores, all other departments are cordoned off. Why don’t they adopt the same practice?

Supermarkets have covered there's over so it's not for sale, just boots being greedy in my opinion

Our local Boots does not allow anyone in, they serve through a window & hatch.

This virus dosent worry me in the slightest. What really worries me, is how many totalitarians we have is this country. And they have now enjoyed the light. They will never go away....

Take it off the shelves !

Inour Wood Green store all makeup fake tan optical department perfufumes etc have been cordoned off, seems a sensible idea to me

Where I stay, its a big Boots outlet, dey hav blacktaped d whole cosmetics section, incld all Brands.Customers to only enter/exit using Automatic Doors,Boots card to b touched by demselves.Reckon all Boots following dis.Hav U checkd if dis news tip is latest or genuine lockdownuk

Take all this stuff off the shelves

Stop selling make up!

Our local Boots has that area of the shop sealed off. You can only use the Pharmacy.

Glad I’m isolated due to being vulnerable. Heart goes out to my colleagues at BootsUK though. Stay safe.

Shut that area, not essential. Here in spain all non essencial at supermarkets are blocked, aisles closed

Not surprised, BootsUK have never cared about their staff from what I saw first hand

I feel 'unsafe' at the amount of morons there are knocking about.

1. If shops still sell non-essential items, people will buy them. 2. People's ideas of non-essential are different. 3. If shoppers follow the social distancing rules, there might not be a problem

That's people for you - so selfish the human race. Boots should close its doors why should they be put at risk.

Then shut the effing thing..cover it up..put it away..stop whingeing pls

That's a very misleading article. All I'll say is don't believe everything you read...

Well don’t sell it then?

Can’t you find some real news to report on

This is very serious with hundreds of people dying everyday BootsUK..... you are seriously going to let customers wander the stores and force non pharmacy trained workers in?

Where I live Boots have a staff member at the door letting 3 in a time with markers on the floor to distance people in any queue. They also have plastic screens on counters that are so easy to install, just a few clicks. Hopefully they're rolling this out nationally.

Just take the makeup off the shelves !

Cover all products except medicine

Simple close non essential areas down.

Well who the **** is out shopping, this is serious StayAtHome

Who in their right mind would browse let alone buy make up during this pandemic? You’re inside your home or should be so who cares what you look like... The idiocracy and stupidity of some people🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️

Considering it was impossible to order online for about a week or so and then when you can log in, there's no stock left! I know because I've tried! BootsUK

Anybody that really needs makeup as an essential during covid crisis must be a 'model' in the adult webcam industry.....there simply is no other reason. slappersstillneedtoearn

Pull all that stuff off the shelves then?!!

cover it over

Shoppers are bored so human nature dictates that they will take their time with whatever it is they are doing So either tape off parts of the store or quit moaning

BootsUK take the makeup off the shelves

Let the shop floor staff go home and only have it open for the pharmacy

Shut off parts of the store?

Why are they less safe than 2 weeks ago .. totally irrational

Stick all make up in the back. Its only open for medical purposes. People are fukin stupid.

.... said the staff.... wearing eyeliner, mascara, blusher and lippy....

BootsUK sort it out boots , shut off all make counters/aisles it’s non essential. Enforce time limits , enforce customer numbers !

Taser them

TabhleegiJamaat TablighiJamatVirus Kindly maintain distance from these TabhleegiJamaat live virus, they have planned to spread COVID19Pandemic across the world.
