Blackpool Zoo's longest standing resident is celebrating her 53rd birthday today. To make the occasion, keepers Vicky and Andrew crafted this birthday treat which included logs, browse and fruit.
Kate's birthday surprise is designed to strengthen her muscles and to allow her to do activities in her own time. The logs and browse encourage Kate to manipulate her trunk which strengthens her muscles, as elephants would do in the wild. A spokesperson for Blackpool Zoo said: "Happy birthday Kate - 53 today! which included logs, browse and fruit.
