Blackburn Waterstones opens with Gruffalo visit on the cards

Town centres and shopping centres are facing a difficult time, with footfall and spending declining leading to retailers shuttering up for good. But The Mall in Blackburn is doing its bit to buck the trend, with the return of a huge name.

The loveable beast will be on hand to meet young bookworms for the launch event on Saturday, August 5 at 11am Shoppers who can browse the literature on offer, which ranges from new releases to educational textbooks and classic novels.Alongside books, there's also range of gifts, games, cards and wrapping paper. The previous Waterstones in the centre closed in 2016 just two years after opening.

Loraine Jones, general manager at The Mall Blackburn, says the new Waterstones store is "fabulous" and that it is "wonderful" to welcome the chain back to Blackburn.
