A senior civil servant says she was ‘racially profiled’ when police stopped her on suspicion of car theft while she was out jogging near her home.
The mother-of-three was out exercising near her home in Swanley, Kent, on March 29 when she was stopped by an officer responding to reports of an attempted car theft.A man had claimed he’d seen her on his driveway and had followed her down the street causing her to seek sanctuary at a nearby railway station, according toDr Charles Fidelis believes the officer presumed she was guilty and said she was left ‘humiliated and petrified’ by what happened.
Dr Charles Fidelis, who sits on the Violent Crime Prevention Board as Director of Communications, told the BBC she’d previously had a positive view of the police but the incident had shown her why many in the black community hold a ‘deeply held resentment’ towards officers.
