A beloved pensioner who was allegedly attacked with an axe at a tea-party to celebrate her sister-in-law's 75th birthday has died from her horrific injuries.
She, her sister-in-law Mairead and her niece Maria, both of whom were also injured, were having tea and cake when the attack took place. 'Gardaí investigating the serious assault in Glenwood Estate, Dundalk on the afternoon of Friday, May 3 can confirm that one woman who was seriously injured in the assault has passed away', a spokesperson told Sunday World.47-year-old Nicholas Muckian, of nearby Glenwood, appeared before Dundalk District Court in relation to the incident, having been charged with three counts of assault causing harm at the same location.
One neighbour said of the three injured women: 'Mairead is a lovely woman. And her sister-in-law, the lady who was badly injured, would often come up there visiting her.'Her daughter Maria is lovely too and she'd often be up for a visit.'
