Billy Sharp’s headed goal in extra time was enough for Sheffield United to squeeze through to the FA Cup quarter-finals 2-1 after a close-fought battle with Reading at the Madejski Stadium

The door to European football remains open to Sheffield United on two fronts. They may not need to win the FA Cup to saunter through it but Chris Wilder’s team are in the last eight after the substitute Billy Sharp breached an obstinate Reading midway through extra time. The second-tier side had equalised through a George Puscas penalty after David McGoldrick’s early goal but fell just short of an upset in a largely drab affair.

Grenfell architect did not check fire safety guidance for tall buildings, inquiry hearsAsked whether he read government guidelines on building and fire regulations, Bruce Sounes said he referred to it but 'certainly didn't read it from start to finish' How many years did it take to find this out. We already knew about failed safety precautions years ago, when it happened. Still no-one who had such responsibilities, and failed those responsibilities, has been held accountable. Meanwhile fire chief was sacked for not being able to sufficiently fight against a fire that engulf a tower block not built to regulations. The inquiry should have been done THIS way round.
