Biggar Rugby Club wins multiple awards at the 40th Clydesdale Sports Council Sports Personality and Team Awards. Fergus Watson named Gents Sports Personality of the Year.

Clydesdale’s top performing sportsmen and women were honoured at the 40th Clydesdale Sports Council Sports Personality and Team Awards for 2023 – with Biggar Rugby Club landing five prizes. A capacity audience at Cornhill Castle Hotel in Biggar were entertained for the evening on Friday, March 8, compered by former Scottish FA chief executive Gordon Smith.

Gents Sports Personality of the Year was won by Biggar Rugby Club and Scotland Under-20 player Fergus Watson, who was honoured with a FOSROC contract in June, and has been training daily with Glasgow Warriors. Runner-up was Law and District AAC athlete James McClafferty, who won 400m silver at the Scottish Students’ Indoor Championships at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow, and bronze in the same distance at the Scottish Students’ Outdoor Championships at Grangemout
