When Simon Cowell first pitched the idea for Britain's Got Talent to producers in 2005, he envisioned a show similar to the 1950s British talent show Opportunity Knocks.
It's said that Amanda Holden was actually Simon's third pick for the role and was brought in at the eleventh hour. The Sun also reported that Cheryl had second thoughts and backed out, leading to Fern Britton stepping in, only to be replaced later.
