Which is bizarre, as we can name multiple completed games which had been in development for longer than Duke Nukem Forever. Like, Grimoire, announced in 1997 and in active development until it was released in 2017:

This game has only been in development possibly since 2015 or 16. A tech demo was shown years ago with no commitment from Ubisoft that a game was being made. That studio put out 2 full Raymond (Legends and Origins) games in that time.
I might actually get around to playing the first game before this comes out! [Not that it looks like the sequel will have much in common, from what I've seen...]
