Best gastro pub in country is actually nestled in Mersey village

The huge country manor pub, in Thornton Hough , has racked up plenty of awards over its decade in business. The Red Fox, on Liverpool Road, first opened in 2014 in the former Grange Country Club after a massive six-month renovation project.

Last year the pub was named Wirral CAMRA Pub of the Year, Wirral CAMRA Cider Pub of the Year and it has also been listed as one of the Top 10 Whisky Pubs in the Good Pub Guide Awards. Currently the bar serves nine cask ales and an ever expanding gin and whisky lists which currently boats more than 150 of each spirit.

A separate Sunday menu is made up of roasts with pigs in blankets, duck fat roast potatoes, cauliflower cheese and more. Online The Red Fox has received rave reviews, with more than 2,600 glowing ratings.
