He's the man tipped to take the biggest job in the UK - so we spoke to those who might know him best 🧐

The shock resignation by Boris Johnson after a cabinet revolt over the last two days has prompted many questions - not least of all, who should step into his shoes.

Garstang resident David Nixon, 57, is not convinced, believing that the Defence Secretary is too hot headed, backing Priti Patel. He tells Lancs Live: “I’m not sure - he said a few things on Russia which are a bit hot headed. I don’t think it’s good that he’s a front runner; a lot of people around here say he’s a good MP but I think Priti Patel would be better - she doesn’t take any messing, whereas Ben Wallace’s stance on Russia puts me off him - I’d rather have Priti Patel.

“Our costs are astronomical, when you’re trying to run a business, or a service, and getting hammered; the cost of fuel has been reduced to the garages, but they haven’t passed it on to the public; to fill one of our vans six months ago was £95, whereas now it’s £195, and it cost me £330 in fuel to go to Henley last week.

A sense of disillusionment and world weariness with politics emanates from Zaheer Malik, joint owner of Only Cool Stuff on High Street, who tells us that ‘no one’ from the Conservative Party would be a good choice for PM in his view. The dad tells Lancs Live: “If I’m honest, anyone from that party is not going to float my boat; if they’re in power, I don’t think a great deal will change.

“He does keep involved in what’s happening in Lancashire and writes a column in the trade magazine, and although I don’t know him, I do read his column and he seems interested in the local community.” The joint partner in the business tells us: “I don’t know about politics, but she’s done all those trade deals and if she decided to do something, she would not back down. I’ve nothing against Ben Wallace as such, but my preference would be Liz Truss. The cost of food has gone up massively, and a lot of things have gone up by 20 per cent - people were struggling massively before this and were only getting by even then.
