Belfast International Women's Day rally to call for 'peace and courage'

Belfast's annual International Women's Day rally will see marchers standing in solidarity with women affected by ongoing conflict worldwide.

This year’s theme in Northern Ireland is ‘Peace and Courage’ and hundreds of supporters are expected to stand in solidarity with the thousands of women affected by ongoing violence and war in their homelands. "We know that it takes courage to call for peace but it’s only when there is a ceasefire that we can start rebuilding.

She became part of the peace movement because of a tragic event. On August 10, 1976, three children — two of her nephews and one of her nieces — were struck and killed by the getaway car of a nationalist Irish Republican Army gunman who was shot by British soldiers.
