A train station in Belfast city centre will close its doors for the last time on Friday night to make way for the opening of a new transport hub nearby later this year.
The closure of the station is to make way for Belfast Grand Central Station which is set to open this autumn. The early closure of Great Victoria Street is to allow for essential infrastructure work to link the rail network to the new hub. “During this time, bus substitution services will operate and passengers will also be able to use scheduled Metro and Ulsterbus services operating between Belfast train stations and along the Lisburn Road. There will also be enhanced Metro, Goldliner and Park and Ride timetables to facilitate our passengers.”
At the entrance to the platform in the station, a board is calling for people to write their messages and memories of Great Victoria Street train station. Those travelling on the last service from the station at 11.32pm will also receive a commemorative train ticket to remember the station and mark the occasion.
