Crowds planning to descend on beaches this weekend as the UK swelters during a heatwave could be turned away and told to go home amid fears it could lead to a coronavirus spike.
Adverts circulating on social media say the ‘beach cookout’ will take place at a ‘secret location’ on Sunday with organisers stressing it is a ‘private event’ where no food or alcohol will be sold.But the force say it is illegal for groups of more than 30 people to meet in a public outdoor space without permission.A Sussex Police statement said: ‘Any event of more than 30 people, without agreement from the police and the local authority, will not be allowed to go ahead.
‘Following this guidance is crucial in order to do your bit to protect yourself, your family, the NHS and your community.’The Met Office is predicting temperatures will climb above 37 degrees celsius in parts of the UK in parts of the UK this afternoon and it could yet become the hottest day of the year so far.after both became overcrowded on what was the third hottest day ever recorded in the UK.
