design with her new collection. The pieces are an extension of Bongiasca’s current ‘You’re So Vine’ line, which dots twists of colourful enamel vines with contrasting gems for a playful selection of rings. Updating the line to include precious materials, the rings are crafted in gold and are available with a choice of five diamond cuts – heart, oval, marquise, pear, and trillion – which make an elevated foil for the curving vines.
‘I was 23 when I started my brand, and it wasn’t very realistic to begin with a fine jewellery collection in 18ct gold and precious stones,’ says Bongiasca. ‘Also, my idea was to create a brand that was very creative and different but without compromising the quality or materials. Consequently, I decided to work my way up gradually, because the way I see it, diamonds sit at the top of the pyramid. After firmly establishing the brand, I am super excited to move up in the jewellery world.
She sources diamonds from stone dealers whose rough stones are certified through the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme , and aims to create carefully considered,. ‘Each stone is hand-picked and confirmed by [KPCS] teams. I am hopeful that increasingly sophisticated track-and-trace technology will further help to improve transparency and awareness for customers of the precise origins of their diamonds,’ she adds.
When paired with the fluid forms of the enamel, the diamonds become sharply modern. ‘I think that there is always a place for a splash of colour in people’s lives, so why not in their jewels?’ says Bongiasca. ‘It’s a small, mood-boosting escapism that, applied to fine jewellery, is something that you wear and cherish forever.’
Wearers can change the aesthetic to suit themselves, with the enamel vine easily removable for a more traditional look. ‘Unlike my previous designs, which were easier to envisage prefabrication, seeing the finished pieces in gold and diamonds has been an electrifying process of constant discovery,’ Bongiasca says. §
