In 2014 Hundreds of Ex and Serving Women of the Royal Air Force joined together to raise money RAFA and Macmillan Cancer Support, by doing a relay round Britain we raised over £32000!

Just back from delivering an ambulance and SUV packed with critical medical supplies for Ukraine to near their border with Poland. We were a four woman volunteer team.

All women team founded and leading our charity, we’ve grown from supporting 40 people living with dementia in Cardiff to providing pan Wales services in hospitals, care homes and the community - making a difference by doing things differently.

Women unite against racism

imagine the privilege of being allowed to leave a war-zone simply because of your gender

Not been to a bar in France then? These are pretty common so not new.

The infamous ‘magic money tree’ would come in handy about now

A personal force field for walking around at night, or any solitary walk or cycle ride, to eliminate that constant twitchy looking over shoulder feeling.

For menopausal women, a cooling vest powered by the thermal energy of hot flushes

Speaking of pipe dreams… I’d love a BBC which takes Women’s Rights & LGB issues seriously & stopped being so biased against LGB people who don’t believe in Gender Identity Ideology & against Women who want Female only spaces, services & activities.

A physical space regulator so that girls’ play is allowed to occupy the same space as boys’. This would expand to other areas such as public transport and shared seating as the girl grows.

Another reason for me not to go to rock festivals.

A shower floor that is both non slip and easy to clean.

Have they ever been to parts of Italy

Money tree

Not to take away from their achievement, but 'invented' is doing a lot of heavy lifting here.

Dream invention? You still run the risk of pissing on clothing

Not quite sure how these graduates can claim to have invented this, it looks like the loo in every public convenience in France.

...aka the Turkish squatty.

Amandas_Shoes I've experienced sexism and sexual abuse at work quite a few times. In every case, the perpetrator was a woman. Its happened to most of my male friends too. We haven't spoken up for fear of not being beleived and/or sacked. We live in a culture of 'Beleive Women' not men! MeToo

I used to crowd surf in my 20s to death metal bands whilst being past over a violent pit it's much fun, haven't done it since I was pregnant (my son is now 25) I saw someone dropped and the crowd couldn't get away..he got up with multiple bruises,a broken nose and missing teeth

I wonder how you decide who’s the best? Did the crowd win anything?

katemosse Because women mostly writes women-centric books.

katemosse Marketing 101

katemosse Don’t get this at all. Love the books by Agatha Christie, Ellie Griffiths, Rebecca Tope, Sophie Hannah, J. K. Rowling, Rachel Abbott, Val McDermid and of course Kate Mosse too.

katemosse Not enough women authors are writing books men would be interested in reading might be a better headline for me title- blurb- review. I don’t even think of the author, unless it’s someone I’ve read before.

katemosse Well I've read most Bronte/Bell sisters books. The same for Daphne du Maurier. I've also read quite a few books from an obscure author called Kate Mosse😀. Gender should not matter but a great story should.

katemosse Oooh as a male and a a dedicated woman’s hour listening. I completely disagree with this 🥹

He’s gay. So what. Get over it! Over and over again spouting LGBTQS For goodness sake give us a rest. It’s becoming a real turn off

My son was born to the track Watching The Wheels by John Lennon. 💙💙

Emergency c section, hungover surgeon and ‘It’s a mad world’ came on the radio….

Yeah The last thing I want a child of mine to be is born during a song about crib death.

I gave birth to John Cage's 4'33' which is why my son is so weird.

Katie Melua ‘Closest Thing to Crazy’. It calmed her down everytime I played it for months afterwards beautifuldaughterhope

I bet many women have conceived at a Metallica concert lol

You couldn't even bother to find a picture of her? Or just the band? A stock photo. 🤦‍♀️

Imagine being so narcissistic you plan music for childbirth 😆

I had to have an emergency c-section with my daughter. I was rolled into the OR, and I was surrounded by all these doctors and nurses. I am so scared and my husband was holding my hand! All of a sudden I hear “Sweet Home Alabama”, and my daughter was born shortly thereafter…

Quite the opposite of EXIT LIGHT!!! ENTER NIGHT!!!

My mum picked Bruce Springsteen - Born To Run

The soundtrack of me screaming!

Guess Child endangerment starts early with her standards.

Imagine it would be to the track 'Sad But True' 🫥

When my eldest daughter was born we listened to Radio 4 Desert Island discs was on - Pavoratti belting out Nessun Dorma

My husband is a bit squeamish so we had bbc radio 4 on to keep him occupied. Women's hour was definitely part of the mix!

Our second daughter was born to the tune of 'It must be love' by Madness. It was on the radio as the surgeon delivered via a C-Section. Sadly I was too nausea to sing along. The tune still evokes special memories

George Harrison had just died when I was in labour with my firstborn in Nov 2001. “Here Comes the Sun” played endlessly as the world mourned. It remains special for me & my now 20 year old daughter. She wears a ring engraved with the lyrics & has a tiny sun tattoo behind her ear!

Jimmy London - A Little Love

I met Metallica when Cliff Burton was alive. I was pregnant and they all rubbed my belly. 🤘

Name him Sandman!

Our daughter was born while Oasis 'Live Forever' was playing.

“House at Pooh Corner” by Kenny Loggins was playing in the delivery room when my son was born.

sophiewillan My mum, who took me on my first marches when I was a toddler, raised me to be a rebel, taught me to fight for equality, and inspires me every day.

I'm 55 and took up Dragon Boat racing last year. It's changed my life.

Scottish coastal rowing! Started aged 50. Great mix of social rowing, regattas, good company and exercising out in nature. And Queensferry Rowing Club get to do all this under three iconic bridges on the beautiful Firth of Forth!

I am 70 and have taken up building LEGO. Did you know you can build a bouquet of flowers in LEGO, cool eh.

I have a pair of dungarees that I bought at Miss Selfridge in Edinburgh in 1981 … ( think Bananarama , Madonna) I wore them turned up, with a bullet belt slung over my hips and a ripped up striped pillow case round my hair! These dungarees came out every pregnancy minus belt !

There's a few, but this vintage 1930s gown I bought secondhand for my honeymoon to Burgh Island, treasured and wore when we returned to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary is pretty special LovedClothesLast ❤️

I have a pair of yellow stilletos I’ve had since my uni days they’re circa 20 years old battered never wear them but I feel young and fun when I put them on 🤣🤣

Very SJP 👏👏👏

An ancient grey cashmere Nicole Farhi jumper that I bought in a charity shop. So soft and comfy! About 20 years old.

This is great! More people nowadays should buy clothes to keep in their wardrobe lovedclotheslast 🙌🙌

Evening dress my husband bought me when I was 18 now 40 and rocked it for Xmas party two years ago ❤️

LovedClothesLast 💗

Wear that skirt tomorrow, perfect with a chunky knit. Obviously, you will need to be standing when you’re presenting, we can than see that wonderful skirt. Everyday , is the perfect day to wear the pieces you ❤️

A recent house move required a de-clutter…I sat on the floor and cried with happy memories when I found a Biba blouse, a BusStop dress and a Chelsea Girl top..! I will never get rid of them (will never fit into them again..😬) 50+ years on..!

I have two winter sweaters bought at the same time when I was 30. I am now 72. I wear them when winter walking and I love them! They are wind and rain resistant. My daughter wants them when I no longer need them so they will go on and on 🙂

I have my christening gown, school scarf & tie and this long wraparound skirt I bought in 1975 when I went to Uni. It no longer ‘wrapsaround’ for some reason🤷🏼‍♀️. So I sewed up the 2 open sides, put in a zip & still wear it😁

So great to hear about this! We're also collecting clothing love stories for a community exhibition in Kirklees Yorkshire 🙌🏼

..... a Laura Ashley blue velvet long evening dress !

Easy, my dad's gloves: they make me feel like I can still hold his hand even though he's no longer around ❤

My tall black welsh hat.

My Papa's gabardine Burberry coat. He bought it in 1945 when he returned from WWII. He passed away in 1988. My Mum wore the coat for years, then, when I was tall enough, I wore it. The collar is very worn now, but I intend to keep it forever.

Iconic Laura Ashley pink cotton dress for my 18th. Worn to school as princess for the day 29 years later! Got funny looks at the butchers though !

I still wear a skirt I bought from H&M in Kensington High St, in 1999, long straight, black with a split up the back, loose fitting with elastic waist. Worn through 2 pregnancies, no matter whether lose weight or put on, it still fits. The perfect skirt, have never seen another

For me, it's my teddy themed cardigan bought when I was 19 years old at Top Shop. Oxford Street. It reminds me of working in London, earning a good salary and not having a care in the world. I am now 54 so, this cardigan is 35 years old..

A heavy silk Korean kimono (hanbok) bought by my Dad 1946 whilst on active service. So worn, so loved, so repaired.

kathwilliamsuk Lovely sound

Not all father daughter relationships are good they can be very miserable and misogynistic especially living as a south Asian female.

😭😭😭

I used to teach Jess, and this morning I turned the radio on and she’s helping me with some much needed stress management techniques. brilliant how things go round ☺️ beautiful music Jess, good luck with everything x

A side hustle?nice Americanism....please don’t.🙄🤦‍♀️not cool.....😂

carolinenokes Maybe a good way to fight sexual harassment would be to stop sexist harassment first?

Do remember having Sex with your life partner.. So Short your Contraceptive period momory Accordingly.. rather you forget to conceiving protocol.. 🤭

Even for under 35 getting anything other than the pill is difficult

We'd love to get involved in this! We have great insights from our community about LARC access and thousands of contraception reviews on

We have loads of data on this at Would love to come on and talk about what our contraception review platform and community are telling us

noo😀

I love children but I learned to respect myself more! There are already so many children in this world & some refuse to take responsibility for their life by respecting themselves, and so others. We are all someone's child & my legacy will stop with me!

Umm, no thank you very much. 🙃 Looking forward to this episode!

It wasn't my 'dream', it's just part of life - if you're lucky enough to be able to conceive. But it's up to each individual whether they want to reproduce or not :)

It is the hardest job you will ever do, though not without rewards. Some days these are not proportionate. If in doubt, leave it out!

Everyone woman’s dream? Maybe 40 years ago.

valmcdermid My favourite Miss M book is 'Murder in the Vicarage', but, any Miss M mystery that has not been ruined by TV adaptation is good. M in the V is narrated by the vicar, but on TV the story is mostly from Miss M's pov.

valmcdermid PS. Thanks for using the picture of Dame Joan Hickson. Best Miss Marple. Ever.

valmcdermid Nemesis. Get to the truth, regardless of the (potential) consequences.

valmcdermid PLEASE 🙏 GOOD LIFE CHOOSING EVERYONE

I only camp with my campervan Hillman, warm dry and rocks you asleep if there's a summer storm raging.

It isn't a staycation unless you camp where you live. It's a holiday. A staycation is when you use your holiday to stay at home. I've done it when I couldn't afford a holiday. Stop making out that what loads of families do every year - holidaying in the UK - isn't a holiday

1 - you need a decent tent for the UK 2 - please be quiet at dawn and dusk, all is forgiven if you have a dog 3 - be prepared for the rain, DO NOT BRING SUN CREAM OR SUN GLASSES

Absolutely 100% never enduring camping again! Mud, thunderstorms, leaking tents, snoring camp mates, other peoples wild children at the campsite's park until midnight, turned me into a grouchy mumma T. REX wanting to roar at them all. winedidnthelp ukweathermakesorbreakscamping

Three adults in a three man tent is pretty cosy, even if we did take an accidental detour in fog and camp at 1,000m. Always take a bearing! Cairngorms Scotland

Challenging myself to step out of my comfort zone professionally. Nothing major like some other women; but, equally rewarding. In my personal life, it’s more “me time” & travel more.

I was made redundant at 55 from a job i’d done for many years. As a child I wanted to be cabin crew - I applied, got in, was the oldest by some margin in my group and worked for over 5 years, most of it as cabin manager, never too old to achieve those childhood dreams! crewlife

Husband and I sold up everything and started a new life in the Canaries running a bar. Very late gap year, now 7 years on.

Just finished my first book at 55. Will be published in the next few weeks 🤞

51 and about to submit dissertation for MSc in Mindfulness & Compassion, achieved with big f/t job, menopause challenges and family 💪💪

I have lived with memory loss from meningitis/ encephalitis since my 30s, got full funding, got a place at Cambridge university and completed a PhD just before I was 50. Triumphant at 50!

Widowed; bought and renovated a house; 2 years in to an English & History degree at university. Took up kayaking a year ago and progressed to whitewater. Currently converting a Transit van to a weekend camper. My 50's could have destroyed me. Instead, I'm having the best time.

Just started to email enthusiastically to say I've been longlisted for a novel writing award CWIP and then remembered I am not quite 50 yet. Oh dear. topicfail

Had first two poetry pamphlets published in my 60s and my first full collection due out in spring 22, the year I turn 70.

Survived cancer (so far - 10yrs🤞) and being here for my 18-yo daughter, created a successful local community cinema that’s still going, still enjoying being a secondary school teacher, now restoring a Victorian farm-house, planted loads of trees & created a garden from a field

Elected as the National President of a large Trade Union. Gained an MA with distinction. Won an international writing competition. I’m now in my sixties and began a new career as a visual artist two years ago.

This year turned out to be very difficult. But we have optimized and reduced the cost of our products! It is almost impossible to find prices lower than ours, the sale is at the cost price level. Watch and be surprised by our super low prices https://cutt.us/6nChw

Low Traffic Neighbourhoods disadvantage women: -usually juggling work, child care, after school activities forced to take longer journeys stuck in traffic -more likely to be carers delayed reaching relative/clients -Women/girls feel less safe walking inside the quiet streets.

I would love to share my story as a younger woman of colour wh9 has survived ovarian cancer recurrence and Covid lost my fertility, hair, ovaries, periods and can’t take HRT for surgical menopause. It’s been so traumatic.

Climate change related please. It’s the elephant in the room. Perhaps related to green new deal/ climate crisis as it is affecting women. The series on women environmental heroes was great, apart from antagonistic interview with Gail Bradbrooke

This year is 50th anniversary of independence of Bangladesh, many Bengalis were living in UK in 1971 and supported the independence movement from overseas. Since then many more Bengalis have been born and brought up with UK. What does 2021 mean to be British & Bengali?

I'm not on the receiving end of those. If I were, the exact opposite effect might happen.

Big night in with work friends they have been there for me while I’ve been moving and wanna have them round for proper knees up they’ve been so supportive!

Yes...we moved to an online book club during lockdown, as a way to keep each other sane. We're looking forward to getting together, as a group of 5 of us and in the last year two of us are pregnant, one got engaged. Lots to catch up and celebrate!

Haha well we are lucky to be a group of 6 friends and yes, we made a booking at our fav pub literally 5min after the ease of lockdown was announced. And we are starting our group rides as well!

Enough of the pink graphics 🤮

Our Gin and Jigsaw Club consisting of self (founder member) and small core team of 3 other navy wives is long overdue. We need some fun, chat, laughs and general letting down of our lockdown long hair!

5 of us childhood friends were due to be in Spain last March to celebrate our 50th birthdays...postponed another twice hopefully 4th time lucky in October when we’ll be nearly 52! 🇪🇸☀️🍾🥂❣️💃🏽

Cant wait to go for dinner with my girl friends. I'm already planning a spa break with one or two of my close friends

My friend is coming to London to celebrate her birthday 🎉

are women safe from men? Lets get men to decide it they are

when women report rape or assault, the media, family, friends, strangers, police and courts question her sexual history, clothing, food, drink and walking choices, yet yes lets focus on those poor men

You have to be kidding!

Oh sod off Women’s Hour. Stop pandering to the menz

Let's have a discussion on male privilege without contradiction, without defensiveness , without ad hominem whataboutery ? Yes I won't hold my breath

Really? Even now when women are finally being heard about the violence we suffer at the hands of men, when we are being murdered at the rate of 3 a week and raped at the rate of 120k a week, you still centre men? You're part of the problem 🤬

I'm a man and I listen to . It used to stand up for women's rights, but now it seems to have woken to support woke gender ideology. Why? 🤔

Maybe we can have a one hour break from 'what men think', the rest of the day is full of 'what men think'

Women's Hour?

Sweet lord what a joke you are. Glad I don't listen to this shit anymore.

I want to hear from women. We hear from men all the time. Can Woman’s Hour centre women please.

God save us all from liberal feminism. Is an hour too long for 52% of the population to speak?

I care less about being vilified than I do about the way the BBC ignores groups like fairplaywomen while pushing Stonewall's 'inclusivity' strategy.

Ooh! More mansplaining. Ridiculous idea

I feel that women probably don't want to hear how I feel about how they feel about THEIR safety, especially during the 1 hour that someone pretends to listen to them! My head hurts. Was your question meant to be that daft?

Emmabarnett did her best after being thrown into an impossible position by BBC producers. The group of “it’s those other men” had no place on Women’s Hour. One little hour in a day ....

I dont feel overall the narrative is vilifying men. The male sex is overwhelningly responsible for violence & it s important to acknowlege that to do something about it. Certainly should highlight need for women to have safe public spaces, like toilets, away from the male sex

This sounds a lot like Men's Hour?

There’s 23 other hours to pander to the dick if you want

Thinking about the number of rapists walking free......

You need to cover the ONS court case and the fact that working class women raised over £1m to keep taking people to court who should have our backs. When a govt sees women as less than human, and the press backs them, it gives men the excuse they can do what they like with us.

For God sake’s we have enough of that on the news news, can’t we just have women on women’s hour redress the balance a bit?

Of course I’d just die if I didn’t find out what men thought about women’s safety. How ever could us little women carry on or even form a thought if we didn’t know what our masters and commanders thought first?

So, you're obviously completely changing your brand and moving on to do something else. Because if there was a Women's Hour run by women, and properly dedicated to women, you wouldn't open this door.

NO THANKS. I'D RATHER SMASH THE RADIO, THAN LISTEN TO MANSLAINING!!!

Woman’s Hour.. clue is in the title..

Brilliant! We don’t hear men’s opinions on women’s issues enough! Thanks 🙄

Why has woman's hour turned into a sausage fest?

‘Men, do you think you are being vilified..?’ ERRRRRRRRRRR? Women are enduring so much trauma and the fallout of recent vigils and now we must be made to still Center men’s feelings. WTAF?

Can you let us know when Woman's Hour is on now?

I'd like to listen to women of all opinions, including those I disagree with. I've had enough of other mens opinions about women, even if they claim a gender id. Let women speak, especially the women men try to shut up.

Tomorrow we want to hear from men listening to Woman's Hour. How do you feel about women having airtime to themselves? Do you worry that they’ll talk about you behind your back? What do those silly women have to talk about anyway? They already have the vote! Tell us here etc...

Why? Because women are finally expressing their rage at male violence? And men might be sad now? Again. Why?

FFS

Are you joking?

The tragic murder of Sarah Everard was committed by a mentally-ill psychopath, not some representative of masculinity. If you want the other side, go speak to more psychopaths, male and female. Don’t imply all men are all just dormant rapists in waiting, we’re tired of your hate

We don't. We hear from men all the time. We want to hear from women.

‘How involved do you want to be in the conversation’ is a cracker.

Women According to Men's Hour ? BBC women WomensVoicesMatter

Nice clickbait tweet. Sadly for you there really is such a thing as bad publicity. But at least men will finally have somewhere they can talk over women 🤣😅🤣😂

I'm sorry, I thought this was Women's Hour, not Men's Hour.

Goodness - why didn't we think of this before? Let's get some MALE voices in! For diversity!

Women! Know your limits! Listen to the men. Even having this little piece of time carved out for women is too much. Will you have women who identify as men on as well? ErasingWomen

WHO CARES? Men get to say what they think on every single platform all the time.

Like men need the platform 😕😒

Aaaaaaaand off.

I thought using the word 'women' was transphobic? Isnt womxn or socially-constructed menstruators more politically correct?

BBC People of Colour Hour: Tomorrow we want to hear from white ppl listening to POC Hour. How do you feel about POC & their safety? Do you worry that media coverage is vilifying whites? How involved do you want to be in the conversation? Let us know down below or contact us here

Dear Women's Hour. Rather than Men's Hour... (we apologise for, literally, 'everything'!) how about a feature on the excellent Rachael Blackmore🏇 instead? CheltenhamFestival 🏇

What the hell

'Always Ask A Man' so 1965

Handmaidens’ Hour. Marvellous.

For heavens sake. The clue is in the name. Woman's Hour.

'How do you feel about male violence against women and girls?' 'what are you going to do to change the current climate of increasing DV and escalation of MVAWG?' That's what we need to ask!

Great angle on women’s safety , which we never hear about.

I'm sorry you were beaten and raped, but it hurts Alex's feelings when you express anger at the men in society. Please think of the men. Won't SOMEBODY think of the men

How's that war talking?

What’s with the 1hr a week “dedicated” to women anyway. There’s something so demeaning and outdated in “Women’s Hour”. As if one should be grateful that an hour has been set aside! You might want to hear from men on how they feel, I don’t. We need more air time to be heard

Having read the comments below I think the idea of men giving their feedback to WH is a very good one.

Good grief. Just no.

I don't think I agree with this. Women are still very much having these conversations and needing to be heard. Women's Hour should be the place for us to do/hear that, instead of making us break off and listen to men telling us what they think. It's not like they haven't been!

Oh come ON. Read the room - how on earth is this appropriate or balanced. How can it be ‘vilification of men’ when 97% of women have been sexually harassed. That’s not vilification that’s statement of fact. And quite frankly who cares how they feel, we care what they want to do

Oh yes, because we don't hear enough from men.

No one listens to women’s hour in order to hear from men. They dominate every other bloody hour on radio!

Considering the abysmal conviction rate of rape, the increasing number of femicides, that 97% of women are sexually harassed in the street by men, maybe it is time men shut up and listen to what women have to say about that. Maybe it is time for women to give the justice

Just... why 🤦‍♀️

Seriously?! Not only is the “hour” only 45mins but women’s airtime is now being given over to men whose views already dominant the airwaves?! I’ve read enough misogynistic comments in the press forums, thanks. I don’t tune in to Woman’s Hour for more mansplaining Emmabarnett

Yes, let's waste time in the only hour set aside for WOMEN to talk about men. A woman was murdered by a man, as are many other on a regular basis, and yet everyone seems to be asking 'but what about men?!' or 'not all men.' Don't do this, it isn't helping.

As a middle-aged man, I take the well-lit main road home, even if it's longer. I feel this is responsible and not a gender-specific choice. But many women friends say that suggesting this course is to blame the victim. I consider violence against women to be a very real problem.

It’s good that women’s hour is once again asking the men for their opinion That one hour a week stands out as a beacon to women and their rights, so it’s only right men should speak We might get it wrong

MrDarrenHopkins and oasistechnology do you know anyone that would like to contribute?

Media coverage isn't vilifying men. It is telling women that they need to accept any man who feels like it as a woman. This has a disastrous effect on women's rights and freedoms. How many cases have we seen of men assaulting women in prisons, or squeezing them out of sports?

And while you have men's attention why not also ask them how they feel about saddling our 🌍 with globalwarming?

Of course

People that age are at so low risk anyway they don't need the vaccine.

Data from accepted research is there to inform. If you can put this into perspective I'm sure it would be helpful. The combination of chemicals fertile women are subjected to, together with anti depressants from covid stress creates a perfect storm. Help don't hide. WomensRights

I also suggest that WH clearly outlines the complete difference in mechanism of action between thalidomide and these vaccines. They are so often compared, but are two completely different kettles of fish.

I hope that alongside airing these concerns, Woman's Hour will set the record straight that there is no evidence to suggest the vaccine affects fertility.

To be fair, the original advice was pregnant women couldn't have it and as of very recently it is only offered if the benefits outweigh the risks and a doctor advises it. Doesn't seem relevant to include pregnant women in a survey of this kind unless the advice changes

What about the effect on those around you. Too selfish for words.

They’re not getting their ovaries injected!!

When you do your segment on this topic, will you be inviting Dr Yeadon to explain his grounds for concern over the vaccine's effect on fertility?

The onus has to be on the govts to produce water tight evidence to school spread. There isn't any. Plenty that proves otherwise but we are screwing our children's education for hysteria and political posturing. Makes me sick.

My daughter is working hard and revising but so much of school has been cancelled and she got COVID in December so has missed a lot. I worry for her and her stress levels are high. Very emotional time.

I’ve twin sons taking A levels this year; hard to work in these circumstances, but trying to focus on the positives, such as new skills of working virtually. Longing to get clarity from the government

I have one doing A Levels and one doing GCSEs in Wales. They’re just getting on with it, lots of tests to check on their progress. We’ve had clear guidance on what to expect with the assessments in the summer. I’ve been so impressed with how the school and kids have adapted.

flowersorcakes Preparing as normal exactly as for exams last year right up until the moment they were cancelled. First exam this year is 20th January and we are being told that they will go ahead so officially there's no uncertainty and revision continues until we hear otherwise.

Preparing for exams? Are you joking? They are about 60% syllabus covered and the teachers cannot manage the scheme of work when some kids have had to miss 8 weeks and some none, due to self iso. Hopeless and unfair. Cancel exams now and reduce hideous stress .

He’s preparing as if they’re going ahead, can’t do anything else. Probably relieved that he managed to get all his mocks done before the Christmas break.

Who is meant by ‘we’ in this ?

Because it so hard to confront your own mortality...in my head I still feel 29 years old of age. I still have dreams.....

janegarvey1 lucypgeridoc We certainly do. And we need to insist that folks who need homecare assistance are given sufficient time by their care assessors, and then their carers. A tiny bit of extra care and attention can mean the world to someone as well as being spoken to as an adult...not a 2 year old.

janegarvey1 lucypgeridoc I'm so happy you're doing this, thank you. But why this objectifying picture of older age? Other age groups wouldn't be represented by a body part (and always the same one). nomorewrinklyhands TomScharfNcl

Do not compare all Units with Telford. If Maternity wants to move forward...incorpoarate the parents in the decision making...give them back their autonomy and make general medicine an integral part of their training!!

Better linking between hospital and community midwife teams when operated by different Trusts. For my first baby post birth I didn't have my first midwife check on time because the hospital didn't tell the community team I'd given birth.

AfterSchoolNan Improved links between midwives and GATU. Conversations about place of birth had with information actually given. Stop this obsession with pushing women to deliver on the CLU when we KNOW it’s safer at home or on MLU. Stop scaring women into intervention

Don’t treat women like incubators. It’s easy to feel like only the baby matters. Many issues can be prevented, first time mothers should have much more emotional and physical support. Routine physio appt for a start. No-one is superwoman.

There is a toxic culture across maternity units to keep c section rates low, ‘normal birth’ is promoted at all costs. Excessive use of forceps. Terrible outcomes for women and babies.

Everything in millihill books

The complete demonization of C-sections in the UK is shameful. Women should have freedom over their bodies - our body, our choice. I had my baby outside the UK to avoid the sub-par maternity care ‘our NHS’ provides. These poor, poor women who have needlessly lost their babies.

How about treating women as adult human beings with agency and a brain instead of second class men/children? Or considering the evidence & symptoms relevant to sex/ethnicity rather than judging us by male bodies? That would be a nice change and not just in maternity care.

Changing attitudes and practice around caesarean birth, both in terms of policies to reduce rates (or meet arbitrary targets) and policies to withhold information and/or deny choice.

I had a consultant tell me 'there's always women like you looking for an excuse to have a caesarean' when I asked what was the safest way to deliver after having had surgery for an interstitial ectopic pregnancy.

Consultants who read your notes before they speak to you? I had one shout at me because I wasn't seeing my midwife again until 32 weeks, which is what my midwife had asked me to do.

Maternity care has always been a lottery. Main improvement would be better training, more empathy, higher staffing levels and actually respecting and listening to women.

A named person to work with /talk too . More connection between consultant and families . Two times in neonatal with prem babies terrifying .

Something approaching continuty? I've seen a different sonographer, midwife and consultant at every appointment through a complicated pregnancy. I normally know more than them. Its not reassuring.

Allow partners to attend rather than treating them like sperms donors during a pandemic? Take time to talk to women and not get irritable when we're asking questions under difficult circumstances?

Continuity of antenatal care. I saw a different midwife at every appt until the last weeks when an amazing midwife worked extra hours to fit me in. Before that, no one could advise me properly eg re induction, as they didn’t know me and my pregnancy, only the standard protocols.

Design services with, for & around the people using them. Lose terminology like ‘normal’, ‘failure to progress’... teach staff about the language of grief & how to care for patients & families when things go wrong. Get consistent processes for sharing info with harmed families...

CCriadoPerez could tell you a few ways...

I have known my husband since I was 15, got together when I was 20 - he is my rock. We have been bickering for 30 years now. We bicker everywhere over everything!

From a psychological pov bickering is a safe 'staying at the surface' way of avoiding the deeper, bigger argument that might be too painful to visit. 😔 It's never really about the bins or who hasn't done the washing-up, or the toothpaste, is it?

I thing that covid is also making some couples appreciate and love each other more. The real possibility of losing someone is in all our minds.

Deep.

I also think we perhaps associate bickering with a home environment and there just are more things to bicker about when both people at home. The cup of tea that didn't get made, the shoes in the wrong place . Easier to argue about these than think about deeper things too.

Interesting! Sometimes bickering just part of a couple's landscape ( and way of playing/showing affection? ) and sometimes low level unresolved issues. If done in public does it have an added performance factor !

I have been in the same house since 1976. Been wanting to move for last 20 odd years but had aspirations beyond budget and a stubborn husband who loves it here

What happened to the original tweet? My comment has gone!

Why is this a story?

Between 1996 and 2005 when I finally chose a mortgage I moved twice a year incl. moving the length of the country and back again in a year. I was very efficient at it! I've only moved three times since and vowed never again after last move when 37 weeks pregnant at xmas 😂

Just moving house now - yes, right in the middle of a pandemic. First move in 35 years

This house 35 years. Lived in a total of 4 places in my 68 years.

children in year 6, 11 and 13 talking about what they're missing this school-end janegarvey1 whjm k_dalziel BBCRadio4

My P7 daughter has just left primary school in Scotland and her class have missed academy link week, leavers party and 4day school trip to bond with other country schools, they left with no send off not even the usual gift of a calculator, they feel let down

No - year 13 and also missing out

a national event to mark the end of term for our nation's schoolchildren

We are in a 3 tier system (North Tyneside) so our year 4's move up to middle school in September. It's a huge change for such young children to cope with. They are only age 9 😟. Missed out on leavers events but more importantly the transition days ahead of the summer.

What about Years 11 & 13?

Give a child a selection of food and if they don't eat it give them the same food at the next meal. Repeat until they eat some of it & don't make a fuss about it. No child will starve in the presence of food. Of course everybody has preferences so offer a sensible selection.

We’re missing all of women’s sport as it’s all been cancelled! 😡😡

ClareHCurrie

We’ve been talking about exactly this tonight!

My youngest is shielding, it's been toughest on her big sister who won't be going back to school with her friends. I'm having to choose between the physical health of one child or the mental health of the other.

With parents unsure whether to send their children to school or not, shielding children may not feel so very different when they remain at home. Returning to school will be a long, slow process and far from a return to norm. That knowledge will help those remaining safe at home.

My 5yo is shielding due to an undiagnosed genetic condition. It’s difficult to manage especially when both me and my husband are working. as schools reopen and lockdown eases explaining to her why she has to stay at home still gets more difficult.

I watched a couple of YouTube videos and decided to be brave and cut my 5yr olds hair. He definitely needs to wear a hat when out for his daily exercise.

I'm excited to see my grey hair let loose. No cutting or dying for a few weeks will reveal a whole new look. I'm getting creative with the headscarves too. Happy days of care free hair free.

Cut my fringe the other day. Wouldn't dare do more than that. Unfortunately this is just the time I decided to stop dyeing my hair and let it go grey so now it's the patchwork look.

I'd like to know why you spend so little time talking about the biggest pushback on women's rights since they were won?

Can you ask them all to define what a woman is please?

Well chaired by janegarvey1 The caller asking each MP to only talk about what their party was doing - not to denigrate others - was spot on! If all political debates set out these simple rules, the public would be better informed, able to decide & MPs replies to the point.

I was hoping that having an 'all female' panel would mean we would hear a sensible discussion of issues and 'reasonableness'. My hopes were completely dashed

I hope somebody asked each of them to define what a woman is.

Good move to set the boundaries early on: stick to own policies and not commenting on other parties - certainly helped to create a clearer & more focused debate - hope other GE panels follow suit. Well done janegarvey1 !

LabWomenDec LauraPidcockMP was amazing. Clear concise always about facts. The others were full of opinions.

An Amendment to the Women's Representation on Public Boards Bill saw women only spots being opened to 'anyone identifying as a woman'. Evidencing 'identifying as a woman' could be as simple as Joe Blogs getting his electricity bill sent to 'Mrs Joe Blogs'. HandsOffWomensRights

Suggesting that women are to blame for being paid less (women don’t feel confident about asking for more) the BxP contribution exposes their lack of compassion and inability to think critically. Victim blaming as a political dog whistle dressed up as social mindedness. Disgusting

This is the best debate of the campaign so far. I actually feel informed. All participants are contributing their points well.

I tuned in to listen to , what I thought would be a sensible debate by female politicians, OMG what a mistake. Shrill voices talking over one and another and not a question properly answered. Had to turn off. What a waste of air time.

Well done Jane. Excellent debate. And well done the lady who raised the question about UK residents in Europe and Europeans in the UK. What about us? Lives ruined. Hopes dashed. I will never ever vote Tory again. Ever.

Women need, deserve & want to be safer in all areas of their lives. Criminal justice system fails women who have been raped, sexually assaulted, been subjected to violence in their own home. We need stricter laws on pornography, reform of rape prosecution systems- societal change

After all the Brexit party’s lies and cons after Tory rule many of us have no stake now in this society They have poisoned our democracy They are chancers run by rich men who manipulated the ref

Why is the presenter of this debate acting like the spokes persons for the Brexit Party, and seems to be very supportive of this Belinda, comes across biased.

What we are doing is leaving what we know. All I would like to say is when we leave it better be right that things will be better. Because if Brexit really does prove to be a disaster you will never be forgiven by everyone including those who voted leave!!

LauraPidcockMP a future labour leader needs to be heard so please stop trying to shut her up, she’s the only person talking any sense whdebate

I’m listening to the ‘debate’, naively I hoped it wouldn’t involve talking over others and cheap point scoring like the male candidates. Is this equality? What a pity

The most annoying about this is that Laura Pidcock has always been last to speak & because of this has been more interrupted, having listened to others.

Interesting discussion obesity isn’t a nice word - true there’s shaming in it however responsibility for our health needs to be enlarged takeresponsibility

Sofie Hagen wants more men to sleep with fat women like her. Does she mind if those men are also fat? Or does she just want fit, slim men to have sex with her?

Sofie Hagen wants more men to sleep with fat women like her. Does she mind if those men are also fat? Or does she just want fit, slim men to have sex with her?

.Very important to exercise regularly when you are over 50.

Obesity is a public health issue not an individual one. It's on the rise & is a product of the society we live in & the 'poor' diet we have, especially in the Western world. This comes together with the obsession with policing women's behaviour, bodies & appearance.

Need to talk about new research on micro biome and obesity as an epidemic - started in southern states of U S and spreading as any disease - see ‘10% Human’ by Alanna Colleen (and other studies). Highly processed food and lack of fibre wrecks the biome and probably causes obesity

If you’re eating a largely healthy diet overall but you’re a bit overweight you are probably not going to have any serious health problems due to weight. It’s ok to not be skinny - skinny isn’t necessarily healthy either - lots of skinny people eat terribly unhealthy food.

Just listening to the lady in her Autumn of life. Dieting all her life. It's a life of misery and I'm glad I've chosen to reject the toxic diet culture. I'm learning to accept myself. I now focus on being healthy rather than looking for the outcome of weight loss.

I actually don’t think that being a bit overweight actually matters - the REALLY toxic thing is people using the issue to insult & shame people. We need to accept different body types & refuse to be defined by our body shape. We need to love and accept our own bodies 😍🎉

To the man who's just said that you have to pay money for weight help, that's incorrect. There are 12 step fellowships that can help with food, just as they do with alcohol and drugs.

Can't believe that psychotherapist moaning about those women that run a lot and have tried to include her,she would be moaning next that they were ostracizing her

I am a student counsellor working in a busy University and am horrified by the damage parents and family do to their young people with careless remarks about weight, shape and food. They may be amused but the recipient is often wounded for ever.

Yes! To the lady on the phone now. Health is the key.

genetics play in a person's predisposition for obesity new research is shedding light on the fact that while exercise and diet are important, sometimes there are underlying genetic factors at play.

Doesn’t this all start with education? How much we need to eat. How to take care of emotional eating. Shaming is unforgivable. Let’s help and educate.

I noticed i'd put on weight, just eating whatever i wanted whenever. My clothes didn't look as they used to on. I was labouring whilst running. I did not like this at all. Then add all the health implications; large waist and increased cancer risks. So being bigger = :(

I started running during my GCSE revision breaks age 15. I am now 40 and have run every morning (give or take) since. It is my own piece of silence & calm at the start of every day. I hope I can continue for another 25 years.

I beleive that power walking with a bit of running is far more powerful.Been doing this for 15 years It allows you to properly connect with the environment at the same time as ensuring no possibility of injury which is a recurring theme with passionate runners. Time for change!

Desperately trying to backpeddle / discredit Rachel Johnson's comments. Pathetic. YES there is evidence

Not very helpful for this piece but have you done something similar on Wild Swimming? That has totally changed my life. It seems to attract women and often older women, so might be interesting for your listeners....

Running has changed my life in so many ways. It's been a constant through difficulties and trauma, a place of escape and calm and reckoning, something that has stretched me and supported me and now something my whole family enjoys. I wrote this about it

I took up running to help with recovery after a sexual assault. Several 10ks and one half marathon later, it's fair to say it's changed my life

I started a profile page for my daughter which is locked down with privacy settings. Tagged photos and events go here for memories to be shared with family/close friends. When she’s old enough, she can have control and delete if she wants.

If the referendum had been mandatory it would have needed two thirds majority to become law, Nigel Farage said if Remain get 52% and Leave get 48% I would not accept it. Well neither do I.

June 2016 was when the British people were lied, to cheated on, stole from by the campaign and the proof of that is being played out in public from Downing Street now. This country has an unelected person running the Government. BorisJohnsonLies

LeaveEU lied, cheated & stole, millions of people were denied a vote, all EU citizens living in the UK are entitled to a vote & all UK citizens living in the EU were entitled to a vote -not every citizen received a ballot paper & the application form for a vote never arrived!

Disappointed that today’s episode of ‘woman’s’ hour sounded just like every other political radio show about brexit, centring male voices.

In the context of the programme, conflict resolution re Brexit, you were rather quick to close down the caller from South London who pointed out that Labour has been abused in the press for trying to do JUST THAT. A difficult walk but exactly what your expert was recommending.

Our family have different views on the subject, but we haven't stopped talking. We discuss it quite a lot and listen to each other. I hate the bullying on both sides - there is a very nasty patronising Remain attitude towards Leave voters - you're thick, ignorant, racist, etc!

One thing is certain, the Government and The BBC have failed the country and need to to be replaced/radically transformed quickly.

Listening to you in the car that elderly lady who said we managed in the war, yes she's right we managed by taking what we needed from the empire and the population was much much smaller then than it is now. We can't feed everyone by growing a few veg in the garden these days.

That was a very poor programme, sadly, a waste of a chance to discuss such an important issue

The BBC is ignoring the illegality of the referendum it wasn’t mandatory for a start it was advisory only broke Electoral Law they were fined & didn’t appeal, they stole individuals’ data supplied by Cambridge Analytica, £8m was spent & no source declared

My background is council house Norfolk/Lincolnshire. What helped to carry the leave vote here was working class xenophobia influenced by right wing media reports about foreigners and the benefits they get. I did not realize how xenophobic my brother was and those around me.

Oh Jane you missed a trick there. Always ask anyone who goes on about 'during the war' how old they are. If they are under 75 they weren't even born.

It is time for spotlight to be focussed on the violation of the rights of UK citizens and especially the young generation of this country who are being stripped of their rights as EU citizens by the stripping away of their EU citizenship: See pics below for my thoughts on this:-

Have to disagree with your guest on what will happen once Brexit is over. The Scottish referendum has shown that the polarisation and bitterness last long after the vote is over - the issue just doesn’t go away. Too small a margin in both to resolve conclusively.

Why do leavers constantly reference the War ? Why do leavers conflate Tory austerity with the European Union ?

brexit is driving me insane, as a young woman who was once interested in politics and social issues i have been vastly put off due to the 'mess' brexit has caused, i feel there's no structure to our government. i wasn't able to vote i would've voted remain but respect democracy.

When will the heads of the military and security services take over to protect us from this fascist government

Brother has left UK with his multi-national wife & kids, cousin has left UK with his multi-national wife & kids, incidents of islamophobic abuse towards my muslim cousin & her kids have shot up, 3 yr old nephew is type 1 diabetic & will die if insulin supplies are interrupted.

I tried disguising food, cajoling, bribery and cooking classes with my child. She is now 22 and her safe food list is reducing. This is a phobia and an eating disorder and is miserable for parent and child. Sad to see responses playing the blame game.

My son, now 9 yrs, has the same eating disorder. For anyone who finds it shocking, or doesn’t understand how someone can eat so selectively, or the parent’s role in this, read this: ARFID

I am an educated 50yo & haven’t ever grown out of an extremely self inflicted restrictive diet of my childhood. Really struggled to handle many foodstuffs for my own 3 kids, now my husband does most cooking. It’s my normal but have always skipped meals rather than try new things!

Disappointed with the coverage of this item. KitchenBee ’s excellent book about how we all learn to eat helped my wife with her feeding disorder and now she has expanded her ‘safe’ foods and can eat in most restaurants. Bee’s voice was missing from this panel!

Very concerned professional on prog totally dismissed parents role in child’s eating patterns. Not all families are emotionally ‘healthy’, and a child might use food as only power/control they have if in a bullying or abusive environment.not child but adults with ‘problem’?

This is so shocking! My kids preferred junk food but I disguised vegetables in shepherds pie and spaghetti bolognese. Chips only on the menu weekly and a 6 bag of crisps a week! Pathetic parenting

I used to do cookery sessions with my daughter’s class in a speech and language unit. Lots of the children had difficulty with touch and texture and were fussy eaters. The sessions helped to ‘normalise’ food and foodstuffs.

I know a woman who runs a small business with about a dozen staff & she says that she will never employ a woman of child bearing age because she can't afford the hassle. That's how the real world works.

themoneysavingm If you were in a full time position before taking a break to become a carer / parent , you can’t expect to go back to exactly the same position part time . That is disrespectful to those who are full time and may have made sacrifices to do so eg parents .

I really wish attitudes changed so that it is something anyone can feel they can request, but in reality I think most people consider it only justifiable for childcare. I used to have a long commute and left my old job because flexible working was not agreeable to my employer.

I advise my advertising students not to ask for it as it will affect their careers. Until men also do it, it's just another reason why women are more hassle as employees. You have to be there to be in with a chance of making it to the top in advertising.

I was refused part time working hours before my retirement. All my younger colleagues returning from maternity leave were agreed. Couldn't face full time any more.

When I’ve negotiated flexible working it has always been because of children but could be other caring responsibilities UELPsychLondon UELAthenaSWAN UEL_PsychSWAN

Most HR departments are run and staffed by women.

We're looking forward to being our guest. Our dear First Daughter will be pleased to be here at BBC. We need her voice and opinion. ;-)

Your very blessed, Not rare! Enjoy Life😀

I loved these two! And yes I hope I have this relationship with both my boys.

I have a close relationship with my 33 year old son. He lives in Canada and I go over to stay with him as often as I can. We always have a long weekend away somewhere, during my visit and really enjoy each other’s company. We WhatsApp each other every day and FaceTime regularly.

Having paid taxes for over forty years older people really should be put at the top of the housing list.

Fab to have rich and robust relationships with our sons! An achievement of decades of feminism? Reflection on the really good contemporary relationships with men of all ages seems to be a really good thread for Woman's Hour to pursue, from both female and male perspectives.

In France people always rent... its a very small island mentality...

Making such a big deal out of changing schools makes it into far more than it is. We all managed far better before.

2/2. Too soon for me, if ever, for a lovely Michael to come along. Not sure how my children would react though! wouldliketoslapJason

I lost my husband about the same time as Cathy - just over 18 months ago. Many bits of Mum resonate with me and it is one of the few TVs that make me smile- superbly nuanced acting and writing- but Cathy is SO gentle and patient with her dopey, selfish son! 1/2

Brilliant

Not what I'd usually watch (the name itself I find off putting) but the show is fantastic. The writing, acting, direction, script and filming are superb. Highly recommend (but don't have the experience you were actually asking for!)

'Mum' was so true to my own experience. It's really, really tricky and takes a lot of time and a lot of patience on all sides. Humour helps!
