Hate single-use plastic? Don’t want sewage in your local river? Karen Shackleton from CleanIlkley and siansutherland talk about their tips for creating a successful campaign:

Poland's top court has ruled that abortions in cases of foetal abnormality are unconstitutional. Poland's abortion laws were already among the strictest in Europe but the Constitutional Tribunal's ruling will mean an almost total ban. Once the decision comes into effect, terminations will only be allowed in cases of rape or incest, or if the mother's health is at risk.

Public concern over the state of our planet is at a record high. But for all the targets and strikes and banning plastic straws, change still feels pretty slow. So what's the problem? Three women, who are suggestions for this year’s Woman’s Hour Power List, plus one of our judges, talks about the kind of power that brings about change, their own quests to make a difference, and how they keep going. We have Karen Shackleton, Sian Sutherland, Hil Berg and Emma Howard.

CleanIlkley siansutherland Two very good pieces, although both stopped short of exploring why we have a climate emergency and what we can do about it.

KwSmaszwybor Thank you for covering this issue. Women in Poland haven’t “always struggled with access to safe, legal abortion”. Prior to the change in 1993, abortion was free & available on demand since it had been legalised in 1956, 11 yrs before Britain.

CleanIlkley siansutherland EmmaHowardBoyd HilBergHBC Listening to the Polish lady this morning and eeerr....dear me every other word eeerr.

CleanIlkley siansutherland EmmaHowardBoyd HilBergHBC Emma howard boyd stated rivers are cleaner than 20 years ago. Really Emma, c'mon. As of to date every English river has failed for pollution. Only 14% now classed as healthy. Article is from year 2000. What went wrong?

KwSmaszwybor Remember those orphanages in Romania?

CleanIlkley siansutherland This is exactly what Karen is talking about, filmed on the river wharfe. Let's not forget England's rivers have failed tests on pollution. Every one. This was filmed on the river wharfe that Karen was talking about. How many excuses does one need.

CleanIlkley siansutherland Very depressing how behind equivalent countries UK is. All claim they care about their children's future but most people here seem to lack motivation livinginthedarkages

CleanIlkley siansutherland EmmaHowardBoyd HilBergHBC So rivers are cleaner than 20 years ago? I've been filming underwater in UK rivers for a long time and they literally are a disgrace. The work clean river ilkley has done is amazing. Total lack of investment, many excuses but there is no excuse. Well done Karen.

CleanIlkley siansutherland EmmaHowardBoyd HilBergHBC Not convinced EmmaHowardBoyd really believed what she was saying. Another one blaming the public for the EA inaction

CleanIlkley siansutherland I only buy loose veg and take my own paper bags. In Morrisons they have loose veg and they provide paper bags.

CleanIlkley siansutherland Wet wipes won’t end up in a river if they’re placed in a bin instead of a toilet.

CleanIlkley siansutherland EmmaHowardBoyd HilBergHBC Maybe Iceland sales were down 30% because people were only buying what they needed and not a packet of 6 when only 2 were required!

CleanIlkley siansutherland I don’t believe biodegradable plastic is any solution. It’s just plastic getting smaller quicker so that the problem isn’t visible to the human eye, the problem is still there. How is it even considered a viable ecological solution?

CleanIlkley siansutherland We do! And the cosmetic industry keeps adding to the problem! We created our truly, 100% plastic-free skincare brand because we were tired of hearing skincare brands calling themselves 'plastic-free' and then finding plastic lids, pumps, etc.

CleanIlkley siansutherland Could the reduction in Iceland sales also be related to people only buying the number of items that they need, and are not pressured into buying a larger number of items in one go - possibly reducing food waste?
