The mother of Nottingham attacks victim Barnaby Webber believes her son was in a relationship with Grace O'Malley-Kumar, who tragically died while trying to protect him. Emma Webber praised Grace as a 'hero' and expressed her belief that the two 19 year olds were more than just friends, reports the Mirror.CCTV footage captured their final moments together, showing them walking side by side - a sight too painful for Emma to watch.
When Barnaby told his family about Grace he described her as his best friend and praised her hockey skills. Emma believes this indicated that Barnaby had feelings for Grace, as he had previously only had one serious girlfriend and several 'liaisons'. Grace, a talented hockey player from Woodford Green, east London, bravely attempted to prevent Calocane from attacking Barnaby. There are now calls for her to be posthumously awarded the George Cross in recognition of her extraordinary bravery.
"Grace tried to save her friend," Emma said. "Barney didn't stand a chance as he was ambushed by this horrendous, evil coward. But Grace will forever be my hero. She could have fled. It doesn't get more heroic than that."
