The Batley and Spen MP says people need to"listen to what we say not what we wear"
Tracy Brabin, the shadow culture secretary, said she had been"startled by the vitriolic nature" of some comments."Women around the world... are being demeaned everyday because of what they wear," she said.
Boris can’t wear the bare shoulder quite as well.
Give this item a rest. It’s a publicity stunt & she just wants attention.
I agree with you
Because the opinions of the public mean nothing to TracyBrabin Standard Labour approach.
Silly girl
Let me guess.. Any criticism from people who think the House of Commons should be kept formal and professional is invalid and they're all just basement dwelling keyboard warriors.. 😂👍 Typical response tbh..
All that happened was she leaned forward and it slipped. Non story
Seeing these MPs get paid over £70,000 a year with many other benefits, I think it's only right to try and look smart and professional even though over half of them are definitely in politics for the money.
It was a bad choice especially for an MP However the disgusting attack by some trolls was not acceptable Another example of nonsensical hate by people who think they are anonymous
I simply can't believe the fuss that's being made over this. Utterly ridiculous.
The old 'keyboard warriors' cliché. If you are a serving member of parliament then look the part. Just as bad as when Jeremy Corbyn used to attended parliament dressed as a homeless person. Nothing wrong with off the shoulder clothes, just not in Westminster.
Less whether it was appropriate and more whether it looked ridiculous.
We are supposed to have strict dress codes for members of parliament, and she broke that. The dress was advertised as an off-the-shoulder design, she is old enough to know better.
One in three of prosecutions of women is over BBC license fee:
Nothing wrong with what she was wearing. If you got it, flaunt it TracyBrabin. At least she was doing something not falling asleep or playing on a mobile
Not keen on labour but if this lady wants to do a speech in the nude but tells the truth as a politician I would listen and take it more series than other MPs lying speeches It's better than clothed lying politicians over the years doing things behind closed doors
Looked a shambles. Hardly the face of Westminstèr. More suited to a night in Las Vegas. Yes...looks/appearance does matter. Sorry if you don't agree
Who cares! Attention seeking drivel
Absolute twaddle. I’d be criticising a male MP if they turned up wearing jeans or a t-shirt. Respect the position you are lucky enough to hold and the history of your workplace. Although not sure what else we can expect from some of these slovenly common Labour lot.
The more important thing is what she said. This is typically Tories sexual repression. They should see a psychologist.
It’s not what U wear TracyBrabin it’s where U wear it; dress would be fine for BAFTA Awards? Still, nice to know its well warm in the commons!
its not what Politicians wear but what they do or are not doing. The Labour Party are only interested in being a Party of protest and that is a dereliction of duty to those being hurt by Tory policies
A certain standard of dress is expected of our parliamentarians and she failed miserably. She looked like she was serving behind the bar of a sink estate pub.
Okay sister
ooooh those Tories love a bit of shoulder-porn
To be honest Tracy Brabin looked great and somewhat noble in doing what she wanted to do. Refreshing to see that helping to make politics in the real world more entertaining. It has to become so, or nobody in the future will give a damn.
You look great Tracy if i took you on a date but for work maybe not sorry to say
Boring can we talk about something else please!
MP criticised for her off -the -shoulder dress needs to grasp the concept of professional dressing.
MSANNCOOPER teresadg0 LadyMercia YorkshireLady3 Lizatthecottage ukreloaded PaulMer52 She TracyBrabin has shown utter contempt for Parliamentary dress code bur then what else can be expected of UKLabour ?
Whatever one thinks of how she looked it was a badly fitting dress
In context there is a reason why she did this so she gets a pass,HOC is a serious formal place so it’s fair to ask and no it isn’t sexist, men have to dress appropriately also.
Business dress, not your favourite little black dress ! Surely she can do better than a publicity stunt to get her point across.
It's all BERKows fault. Maybe she was hoping for some applause.
BBCWorld but at least now she looks formally dressed and not like some heavy hangover from last Johnson drinks party
Bring back the top hats.....that's what I say.
People are dying from terrorist attacks in this country and all our MP'S can talk about is a female MP wearing a off the shoulder dress. For god sake get a grip on reality.
I don't know who she is but I like the fact she has basically stuck the middle finger up to all the assholes that are causing legit people and business's no end of grief. There should be more of this so the serial complainers scuttle off back under a rock.
OK for the tories to be found in contempt, along with Cummings, Rees-Mogg sprawling over the front benches like some latterday lounge-lizard. They'll be covering the chair legs next! So long as she does a great job for her constituents. Not bothered.
Good for her people should get a life
No need for 'rude nasty comments ' ,,just say hey it's not very professional what your wearing ...easy
She's of a certain age when she can't carry this off like she probably did 20 years ago.
It’s her right to wear whatever she chooses as long as it’s within the law. The problem is, will the other members take her seriously if she presents in what THEY consider inappropriate clothes. We need to understand that it’s not only what we say that influences but image also.
if she doesn't have to be suited and booted for her job then can all office workers turn up in the weekend clobber.
I totally agree with her, it’s what their input is in parliament, not their dress sense. What’s the fuss about. She has a right to dress how she wants.
If she wants to dress like a hooker who cares but we don’t want to see it
I don't think it's sexism at all. I'm sure if a man turned up in parliament with a shirt that exposed a shoulder it wouldn't go unnoticed, and would probably create more uproar
Hits back ? It was a totally inappropriate dress to wear and made it look like she went there directly from a night out.
I think the whole behaviour of the house of commons needs addressing, the constant braying while people are talking and making snide comments and smears, the whole school yard type of behaviour is not appropriate I think dress codes really are bottom of the list
I think people are right, that's an evening dress not a work dress and as for 'listening to what people say' labour has nothing to say that's worth listening to.
Who actually cares?.....
About the fifth time this has been posted by the BBC today. Forcing us to pay a license fee so some dweeb can sit with his feet on the desk pressing send every half hour. Abolish the BBC license fee!
Wore it two days running second day with a jacket. 'What's wrong with her foot/leg?
What is it with British folk wanting to the people what to wear .. then being insulting when they dislike it ... 2020 and they act like moggs 1820
Christ sake 🙄 far worse things going on I think the world ....
Most were happy Bercow looked like a trampnthough
TracyBrabin It's no good making the argument 'people should listen to us rather than what we wear. You chose to wear that and provoked people into comment about it. You have no argument along those lines.
Well she’s got what she wanted she’s on The news and Everybody is talking about her
She’s called Tracy Brabin, not “bare shoulder MP”.
Fashions change, acceptable attire changes. If a member of parliament walked in dressed as they did 200 years ago there would be even more press coverage. This is a non story.
This outrage is all a bit rich from people who watch a Parliament administered by men in wigs and wearing tights...
Not abusive at all, people are entitled to their opinion and she is entitled to ignore it, that’s freedom of speech
As long as the criticism is aimed at twitter trolls then fine. But to make it about anything bigger is silly.
It was unusual but not that much bad!
Oh dear, some naked skin!
Mutton dressed as lamb!
She needs to get a sense of humour not have chip on her......
When she says keyboard warriors, is she referring to the FPBE numpties or the JC4PM nutjobs?
All of you can wear shorts, Hawaiian shirts and flipflops for all I care TracyBrabin - all I ask is you get the job of managing the UK done properly😉
MPs need to be appropriately attired in the Commons and people wouldn't comment on what they're wearing. Which makes you wonder why she was wearing that particular dress.
Sensible dress madam
So at next PMs questions its ok for Boris to wear his bright yellow mankini during a debate on terrorism.
Agree. The dress looked good too. Just saying.
I have listened. None of it makes sense.
Every profession has a dress code; Parliament included. She slipped up ( or down ).
Its times like this I wish I was an MP. I'd have a suit jacket and shirt altered to expose the shoulder and sit there like an idiot making my point. MPs might try and give me the cold shoulder, but I'd already have one.
She was dressed inappropriately for work - if she can't see that then she's even more stupid than I thought.
99.9% of which was not abusive or trolling at all. Most said that she was unprofessional and should respect Parliament
Breaking: Former actress uses clothes to draw attention to herself.
Total disrespect for our Parliament in my opinion 😱😱🙈
🙈
As the honorable mrjamesob rightly said: no one was complaining about 'decorum' when Reece-Mogg was lounging around like he owned the gaff. It's a shoulder. Grow up.
She was in the seat of government NOT Coronation Street!!
I cant believe people are still banging on about this.
99.99% are Piss Morgan minions!
