Letters: Trevor Burnard points to the prominent slave trader Humphry Morice and urges the Bank to publish the extensive papers relating to his activities

It is good news, and about time, that the Bank of England acknowledged and apologised for some of its former employees who profited from slavery . It is strange, however, that the Guardian report does not mention the Bank’s most important slave-trading member, Sir Humphry Morice. He was a director of the Bank of England from 1716, and governor in the 1720s. He was also a leading slave trader, whose papers at the Bank I surveyed on the remarkable day of 11 September 2001.

Did Guardian apologuize and pay reparations for their founders slavery crimes.

This is the newspaper you use ? Look at thier past.

It about time people were forced to admit their recent ancestors addiction to sugar and tobacco fuelled the slave trade

Not had your apology yet.People in glass houses hey

They want some cash 😁

What about all the children in the world working in slave factories making trainers and sports clothes for very rich famous people to profit from 🤔

It looks everything is about compensation! No one care what happened 150 years ago. This gate is open and smell of money is getting stronger and stronger!!! Just admitted people!!!

Another shakedown. Why do we need this shit? And when they become the majority do imagine they'll treat us with the same benevolence and tolerance? Because from what I've seen so far it doesn't look likely.

Yes I think they should give all that money to me and make the building into a premier inn

FFS draw a line, it's history, learn from it and move on.

Nothing to apologise about, times have moved on and so should these morons

Will you apologise, and make reparation, for your support of slavery?

look the bank of England funded Hitler as well.. I wouldnt expect anyone there actually gives a shit about humans! I dont think they care even now! Its just laugh at the poor people, smoke another cigar and eat another baby probably!

No apology will ever be enough. Don't apologize.

why apologise for slavery?when you made millions & build some of your empire with slave money.the french & german govt paid reparations to jewish families.japan paid to south korea for comfort women.restitution or reparations should be paid.apology isn't enough

I totally agree! America has over 4 Billion dollars awarded by Congress for The Burden South of the Boarder of Mexico's President's failed Policies to provide for & protect his people! Welfare began The Day that Check was Voted in & signed by our Current President. An apology?🤔

* everyone apologising * meanwhile in the real world, 13% of the population still committing 50% of all violent crime...

Where's your apology?

Where's the guardian one?

It will never be enough until all White people die. That is the only way leftists will be happy

Seem to be keeping quiet about your own

Where's the Guardian's slavery apology?

Nothing you do will ever be enough. Their goal is your total destruction.

Instead of worrying about things that happened hundreds of years ago why doesn't the Guardian lead outrage about young girls trafficked from Eastern Europe on the promise of good jobs only to find themselves forced in prostitution?

The Bank of England should publish the extensive papers on its director's involvement in slave-trading. Instead, it writes a half-ass apology. Smh. Businesses continue to do the most to shield their genocidal atrocities while doing the least to remedy the lingering harm.

Apologies accepted but formal written apologies would be nice NOW PAY COMPENSATION TO THE EX-SLAVE DESCENDANTS !!!!!!!

...Is a Private Bank!!

Apologise also for the yrs u ripd us off

Did the Guardian apologise for the fact it was founded on the back of a Slave Trader?

We wan yo money!!!

Waiting on the Guardian come on Guardian your hiding.

An apology for the slave trading likes. Yeah that’s enough. Jesus

Defund money

Is ANY apology “enough”? (SMH)
