Labour wants the courts to be given new powers in a forthcoming bill to crackdown on online abusers.

The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport said the government was "introducing tough new laws" to force social media companies to clamp down on racism.

"We will not hesitate to bring these powers into force if tech firms do not step up their efforts," the DCMS spokeswoman said. "It is too easy to troll and abuse. To be racist is just too easy to be done and get away with," he said. Ahead of the meeting, his spokesman said the companies should "do everything they can to identify these people [the perpetrators of racist abuse]".

Some describe nightmare shifts sifting through the worst and most graphic content imaginable and then making decisions about what should be done with it.Algorithms trained to seek out offensive material before it is published, the blanket banning of incendiary hashtags, the use of techniques such as "hashing", which create a kind of digital fingerprint of a video, and then block any content bearing the same marker, are already in regular use.

Why is hell bent on banning free speech and introducing newspeak?

How about overseas tweets will you sort that out labour

But if most are coming from abroad it will not have the desired effect, they do need banning but that alone is not enough. Its more than the racist abuse that needs addressing that is the tip of the iceberg. Behaviour was abysmal , no excuse accepted, sort them out!

Yea good luck with that Keith

Good show of support but no social distancing and no masks, has the virus taken a day off?

Ban them from all sporting events for LIFE. Ban them from having an internet provider for 10years. Ban them from having a smart phone too. Nokia 3310 all the way, or if they disagree - prison

Most online abuse is coming from outside the country

Ban them from society.

Lifetime ban from football is the only decent punishment.

I bet alot of the racist don't even attend games and a percentage of them don't reside in the UK. Those in the UK presecute them through the courts.

Labour hate white British they attack them at every opportunity.shame on them If they cared they would help bond communities and not continue with this division tactics of creating us and them in inner-city communities.

That won’t be hard, 70% of that racial abuse comes from overseas. And of the remaining 30%, just how many attend football?

Ban them from the Internet, more like.

doubt if many of them attend games !

Good they should be banned , online behaviour is toxic and until it has consequences it won't change!
