I take calls from close family on hands-free, never work calls. Family understand that I prioritise driving over listening/thinking/responding. The increase in road deaths is linked to poor driving - there are simply insufficient traffic police to enforce high standards.

How will this be enforced, precisely? Very soon, no radio, no talking and, the way things are going, no engine noise either. Sounds perfectly safe to me...

Absurd.

candyshopsk And while we are at let's ban listening to the stereo, talking to passengers - hell let's go the whole hog and just ban driving!! MPs living up to their usual high standard of muppetry.

a hands-free call creates less distraction that talking to someone in the passenger seat, because you never need to look at the person you're talking to so your eyes, at least, are always facing forward. will we ban passengers? of course not. waste of time.

May as well ban radios/cd players too, as changing the station is sufficient distraction to cause an accident

Using a pic of a guy with a phone in his hand to illustrate the article is so Graun.

Absolutely - even hands free they are a distraction. Far too many deaths on the roads that ARE avoidable and preventable.

Good luck with that.

Ban drivers making hands-free phone calls, say MPsSelect committee warns hands-free devices create ‘same risks of collision’ as hand-held ones The Independent : Hands free means you do not touch your phone while driving , should be using voice activation , not like in the photo ? Id love to see how that is enforceable. What is stopping the passenger from using it, thin line between sensible safety measures and straight authoritarianism. Laws for the sake of laws, criminalising people for nothing. Johnson wont last long at this rate Ive seen coppers blatantly using radios and mobiles whilst driving, suppose their training exempts them... Driving is already nerve wracking enough with speed cameras every 1/4 mile on main motorways, could you not just leave us alone for fucks sake.

Queen 'dismayed' with MPs and how they run the country'She expressed her exasperation and frustration about the quality of our political leadership.' Next Parliament meeting If true, you're not on your own Your Majesty. In my 75 years I have never witnessed such a poor quality of politicians. Whatever their personal aspirations may be it's certainly not about securing the best for their electorate. Close parliament and give REAL people a chance.
