Officials in Maryland are working on a groundbreaking new bill to ban balloon releases in an attempt to stop plastic choking the environment.

Corchiarino, who says that released balloons is littering, said the bill would not penalize accidental balloon releases or releases done by government agencies,It will instead target those who release balloons deliberately, with such events often taking place to celebrate a birthday, or even commemorate someone after they’ve died.

Once eaten, such plastics can cause serious health issues for unsuspecting animals, and even kill them.Falsted added that creatures may also get trapped and wounded by balloon ribbons if they become tangled around their limbs or wings.
