A fire brigade has unveiled a new design for their rescue vehicles to raise awareness of water safety.
Avon Fire and Rescue Service's new artwork features life-saving advice in striking colours to catch the attention of those passing by.Watch manager, Rich Wheeler, said: "We know all too well the grave danger that our waterways present, and believe that nobody should fall victim to drowning." The three panels include important water safety points, reminding people to respect the water, float to live and seek help, by calling 999.
The fire service has urged people to offer help to anybody who gets into difficulty in water from a safe distance away, by throwing a floatation aid or throwline, which can be found at any of theMr Wheeler added: "Whilst we strongly urge you not to enter the water where it is unsafe to do so, we know that sometimes people do fall in, and so knowing what to do if you or someone else gets into difficulty is vital.
"Cold water shock, currents and other hidden dangers can harm even the strongest of swimmers, so never assume you could just swim to edge and get out.Bristol Live
