Iron Man 2 barely holds together. Rather than act as a straight sequel to the surprisingly successful Iron Man, Marvel Studios decided to overstuff the film with universe-building references and two-dimensional villains . The result is a film without any direction that serves as a Trojan horse set-up for the Avengers.

It was the only option for her character in that story. She was a cold hearted killer who found her “family” in the avengers. So killing herself to bring them back makes sense. It was also shown she has a close relationship with Clint’s family.
