An Australian Shepherd called Viking has won the best in show at the 2024 Crufts dog show, held at NEC in Birmingham.
The proud co-owners of Viking, Melanie Raymond, John Shaw and Kerry Kirtley, had previously seen him win in the pastoral group earlier in the show. When asked if Viking met her expectations, she replied: "He did actually, I should never doubt him because he always gives me everything and you come in and he's like 'yep, come on let's do this'."According to The Kennel Club, a dog welfare and training organisation, this breed was initially bred in America as a sheepdog for ranch work. They also noted that the breed excels in the show ring due to their "attractive colours and athletic movements".
A spokesperson for The Kennel Club mentioned: "There was a protest incident involving Peta at Crufts and they were swiftly removed to ensure the safety and welfare of the dogs and owners, who are our main priority."
