An "enormous attraction" that was loved by generations of Liverpool kids is set to make a comeback this month.
To coincide with its return, the ECHO has delved into our archives and rediscovered a photo from the early days of Croxteth Park's Miniature Railway. Courtesy of our archive, Mirrorpix, this photo has been unseen for years and shows a group of children in April 1982 alongside model engineers Jack Woods and Hubert Beddows, who both built and ran it.
"But Mr. Woods, who finds time to run his own firm as well as driving the trains with Mr. Beddows, says it has been worth every penny." He said: "It's a commercial undertaking, but it has been a labour of love. I have been a railway enthusiast since I was 13 years old." Earlier this week, many were thrilled to hear that Croxteth Park's Miniature Railway was making a return. On May 8, a spokesperson said: "It’s not long now until our Miniature Railway reopens after 15 years. We are aiming to have trains running from the end of May and we can’t wait to welcome on board." They added: "It’s been a lovely day at the park testing the train and finishing painting fences.
Councillor Lila Bennet, Cabinet Member for Employment, Educational Attainment and Skills said: "I worked at Croxteth Country Park for several years and recall how popular the miniature railway was with visitors and children. As an employee and a local resident, I have my own fond memories of my grandchildren having lots of fun on the miniature railway.
