At BST Hyde Park, Adele returned to the stage and cemented her national treasure status. Over two hours on stage, Adele was in the finest voice of her career, weaving crowd banter in among her many hits. ✍️ hiyalauren ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

You have not seen carnage until you have seen the queue for the women’s loos at. Women snake around barriers as far as the eye can see – there are long sausage links of women, conjoined by gel-manicured hands so they don’t lose one another; women diving into empty toilet cubicles with the athleticism of Tom Daly in the Olympics; women in birthday tiaras and hen party sashes; women laughing, women shouting, and in one case, a woman crying in AirPods as she shouts down a phone.

That, ultimately, is her great charm – the dichotomy that has made her, at only 34, a bonafide national treasure. On Hyde Park’s British Summer Time stage last night, in front of thousands, she earned that status all over again. Her marathon two-hour show dripped charm and showcased vocals that had to be heard for their sheer power to be properly understood.

As such, when Adele’s British Summer Time weekend was announced , the concerts promptly sold out in minutes, across BST’s sometimes off-putting, aggressively implemented pricing tiers. She headed up an all-female bill, which included Self Esteem, Kacey Musgraves – who brought out the sun performing tracks from her newest album, the subject matter of which she described as “Divorce, babes”, using an Adele-ism as the occasion demanded – and Gabrielle, emerging just before 8:30PM.

Initially, her vocals were a little rocky – she is a famously nervy singer and is known for stopping songs and starting them again, though there was none of this last night, other than to get security help for crowd members – but right on form, she seemed to get over the nerves once she shared with the audience, like a mate who needs to get something off her chest. “I’m shitting myself,” she cackled, before launching into 30 track “I Drink Wine”.

hiyalauren Such an accurate article. It was incredible last night. So powerful. The rollercoaster of emotions. She full on broke me when she sang Make You Feel My Love.

hiyalauren She's definitely not a national treasure to me.
