'Talent comes from everywhere, irrespective of background'

If what you learn becomes part of who you are, imagine not being able to explore creativity through the arts? It sounds dystopian but it’s happening right now. Many schools in London’s Tower Hamlet’s borough are scrapping arts education from the curriculum in favour of STEM lessons

While those subjects are equally vital, particularly for inspiring involvement from women and underrepresented minorities in STEM professions, giving pupils a chance to access– is more pressing.

– a community youth arts education organisation – is working to redress the balance. "At a time when schools and local authorities are reducing their arts budgets and provision, we still need the arts to help bring about a positive recovery and come together after the pandemic," says Sarbjit Natt, Director, A Team Arts Education.

Tower Hamlets, where A Team Arts is based, has one of the most diverse, youngest and fastest-growing populations in the UK.
