Armistice centenary events must acknowledge Britain’s colonial past | Deian Hopkin

Vera Brittain, in her moving autobiography Testament of Youth, recalled that when the sounds of victory burst over London on 11 November 1918, men and women alike did not proclaim victory but simply said, with relief: “The war is over.” And yet, in so many ways, and for so many people, it would never be over.

What complete & total bollocks. Do explain just what the Armistice has to do with colonialism. Please advise/remind D. Hopkin that the Armistice was signed in 1918 so the centenary was last year.

Forgive the impertinence of arguing with a prof, a Knight & a govt adviser. The Empire is too heavy a burden for Remembrance Day to carry alone. By keeping it simple & focussed on the mass deaths on all sides, it has an a robustness outside of contested history.

They’re not ‘politically challenging events’. They’re wars where Britain was the aggressor was in the wrong and committed acts of genocide on the people’s of other countries. Stop trying to rewrite history

Pope warns Catholic Church must acknowledge history of sex abuseAddressing an array of scandals, the pontiff said on Tuesday the Vatican has to accept widespread abuse of children and repair its reputation among young people or risk becoming 'a museum'. No. The reason the Pope is so enchanted by Islam is that paedophilia is an acceptable practise in that religion. By merging with Islam, suddenly all the pervy stuff that was always happening will magically go away. He is proud of it. So is Satan.
