For most of us, Halloween make-up usually means a flurry of fake blood and fangs. In other words, something that verges on the comedic, rather than the chic. Not so for Ariana Grande, whose nod to Halloween was a masterclass in make-up that has legs long after spooky season.
While the line itself was classic enough – inky black and defined with a perfectly winged tip – it was the placement of it, suspended in the socket line, that made it work so well. As well as elongating her eyes with the upward flick, the placing made for an edgy, futuristic framing of Grande’s eyes which kept things looking ultra modern, rather than retro.
