The 12-year-old's life support was due to be withdrawn on Wednesday.

Archie Battersbee suffered brain damage in an incident at home on 7 April and has not regained consciousness

The family applied to the the ECHR after an appeal against the decision to end treatment was refused by the Supreme Court on Tuesday.Archie's mother Hollie Dance said the court's decision was "another heart-breaking development". The court would only grant such requests "on an exceptional basis" and "when the applicants would otherwise face a real risk of irreversible harm", it added.would breach a range of human rights safeguards, including right to life and right to a fair trial or hearing.Media caption,Following the ECHR ruling, Ms Dance said: "The NHS, the government and the courts in this country and Europe may have given up on treating him, but we have not.

But Prof Alastair Sutcliffe, Professor of General Paediatrics at UCL, said: "The UK is a world leader in health care and indeed the research behind therapies.

Are we still under the European Courts since Brexit? Didn't know what the arrangement was, if just as per before?

Shocked to hear the family believe moving him to a hospice is possible. He can't be moved with the machines that are breathing for him.

A sensible decision by the ECHR - I don't believe it!

Quote'His family want him to be taken to a hospice, but doctors have warned there is 'considerable risk' in moving him.'end quote What do they mean considerable risk? Are they worried it will kill him?

This is so tragic,I can sympathize with the mom and the medical experts,I think we know that the inevitable Will come, the mother just wants to cling on to any hope. so sad

What I am about to say might be terrible to most but she should let her son go. The NHS can only do so much. If she has the funds to keep him going, then by all means but there are other patients with better prognosis that can be saved.

Think todays society needs to wake up to the dangers online and stop allowing impressionable youngsters unmonitored access. Might help a little in this sort of thing happening

In 1999-2000 my baby was condemned by the hospital pediatric team of our city, but thanks to a pediatrician who disagreed with this 'diagnosis', Nicolas was transferred to another hospital, and the new medical team saved him. From France ❤🙏🎈

'''[ The trust said there was 'considerable risk' in moving him from the hospital bed and that any transfer from the hospital would 'accelerate the premature deterioration' of Archie. ] ''' What a paradoxical argument 💔🙏

Common sense has finally arrived.

Absolutely heartbreaking

The kids a cabbage sadly, let him go with dignity.

Sad

'And again our country has failed a 12-year-old child,' No, it hasn't. Our country has done everything possible to save that child's life. Archie is brain-dead and prolonging his existence is cruel and unacceptable. It's tragic, but Archie's parents are making things far worse.

If he was an illegal migrant or a convicted felon they’d be falling over themselves to help him.

It's a terrible tragedy but I'm starting to get suspicious of these parents. Why would they rather spend their time posing for photos in designer clothing and abusing court systems instead of spending time with their dead son? sounds like attention-seeking to me.

nocylad They are only interested in political issues or so it seems

It might be an indulgence to some, but unless there is 100% certainty I personally will give him and his family a chance, out of compassion maybe

Sadly!! However, the family will not grieve I suspect? They will be looking for a scapegoat. That’s the draw back of todays society!! Legally they have explored every avenue? Next comes the litigation!!! So so sad!! It’s about Archie and not the parents. 😢

Sad case but time to let him go.

Its hard but they need to let him go, they are prolonging his body for selfish reasons. Let him rest in peace now . God bless

I'm not medical, but my heart goes to them. I would personally donate some money to keep him alive and give him a chance, when/if everything is denied to him and his family. Any fund raising available?

This has clearly been heartbreaking for the family and the medical staff.

Archie Battersbee's mum slams 'execution' as 12-year-old's life support to be stopped todayArchie Battersbee's parents have said they will submit one final bid to postpone the withdrawal of his life support, as they slammed the 'cruel' hospital for giving up on their son. I feel so much for them. Doctors and the government should not decide what's best for Archie. I hope and pray they win. I wonder if this would of gone on for this long if this was in the USA and they were being charged for his care..

Pac-12 commissioner: USC, UCLA made 'short-term financial' decision they 'already' regretIt’s been about a month since news broke that USC and UCLA are bolting for the Big Ten. Pac-12 commissioner George Kliavkoff thinks the two schools are already regretting it. More: CFB The more he talks the less I care about the Pac12. CFB Football and mensBB fund all the sports. Period. So if the schools are “regretting it” it means that they either will ultimately drop sports or compete at a lower level. What they “regret” is their inability to support their student athletes with the same money as SEC and BiG.
