As of 9am today, there had also been a further 32,253 lab-confirmed Covid-19 cases in the UK, the Government said

The latest data on coronavirus shows there have been a further 49 deaths within 28 days of people testing positive for Covid-19, bringing the UK total to 131,640.

There were fears that this change to the rules could lead to a strong new wave of coronavirus infections. Speaking on BBC Breakfast, he said: ‘We all agree that is not over until it is over in every corner of the world, because otherwise it will just come roaring back. ‘As we go into winter, now is a critical period and I think that is why we haven’t seen a rash, rushed decision by the JCVI and the Government.’The UK’s vaccination programme has so far seen around three-quarters of adults fully vaccinated with two doses.
