BREAKING: Another 186 people die of coronavirus bringing total to 43,414

He said the government could shut down beaches but that he was reluctant to use those powers because people have had ‘a pretty tough lockdown’ already. Critics say lockdown is being lifted too quickly given the UK’s track and trace app is not up and running and the NHS contact tracing system isEngland’s chief medical officer Chris Whitty warned on Thursday that the pandemic will worsen again if the public don’t follow government guidelines. He wrote on Twitter: ‘Covid-19 has gone down due to the efforts of everyone but is still in general circulation. ‘If we do not follow social distancing guidance then cases will rise again. Naturally people will want to enjoy the sun but we need to do so in a way that is safe for all.’
