Mayor of Greater Manchester calls on rail operator to explain how it will end chaos on key route between North West and London

On Friday the managing director of Avanti West Coast announced he is to step down amid a backlash over the timetable cuts.new train strikes will take placeMr Burnham said: “Every day that this continues is a day of damage to the Greater Manchester economy and it cannot be allowed to continue. Explaining the timetable change at the time, Mr Whittingham said the “current industrial relations climate” had resulted in “severe staff shortages in some grades through increased sickness levels, as well as unofficial strike action by Aslef members”.Avanti says it has more train drivers than before the pandemic but has been relying on overtime to maintain its services.
