Andrew Innes has been jailed for at least 36 years after murdering Bennylyn Burke and her two-year-old daughter. CCTV footage shows Andrew Innes purchasing a hammer on the day Bennylyn Burke was killed.

Monday 6 February 2023 18:15, UKA man has been jailed for life and ordered to serve a minimum of 36 years after he was found guilty of murdering a woman and her two-year-old daughter and burying their bodies under his kitchen floor.

It comes after the judge ruled there was insufficient evidence to support the defence that medication had caused Innes to suffer steroid-induced psychosis which led to him going"insane".Sentencing Innes, Lord Beckett stated the charges were"amongst the very worst crimes which have come before the High Court".

They added:"We cannot drive from our minds what happened to her and what happened to Jellica, or the fear they must have felt after experiencing violence from Andrew Innes. Ms Burke, originally from the Philippines, moved to Bristol a few years ago and met Innes via an online dating site. During questioning by defence lawyer Brian McConnachie KC, Innes claimed he killed Jellica two or three days after Ms Burke.Asked why he killed Jellica, he replied:"Because I was insane as a result of the steroids."

How could someone do something like this?

We must outlaw ALL hammers!

That's a short jail terms 😡 36 year's for killings a mother and a little baby? 😡😡😡😡😡😡

No guns but the act was still done. Humm now.

Ban hammers!!!

A good family man would own his own hammer already

He'd have been better off with a rock in a sock ..

This is disgusting

Hope he rots there, also hope the other inmates get him.

Why? Just why? 😪

Jury told to convict Andrew Innes of murdering Bennylyn and Jellica BurkeAndrew Innes killed Bennylyn and Jellica Burke at his home in Dundee almost two years ago. What's the point in having a jury if the judge tells them what they'll decide? Devils advocate… surely it’s down to the jury to make their own decision not led by a judge? Glad I’m not the only one questioning if the judge has exceeded his authority here. I get that the evidence was pretty damning but to direct a jury on the verdict they MUST deliver is quite odd to me.
