Millions are set to recieve a one-off cash boost

Millions are set to receive a one-off cash boost to top up their Winter Fuel Payment. State Pension claimants will be given the £300 boost this summer, and now the Department for Work and Pensions has issued guidance to help people figure out how much they're entitled to.

The 'Cost of Living' boost was announced by former Chancellor Rishi Sunak earlier this year, who claimed that pensioners were set to be disproportionately affected by soaring energy costs later this year. The energy price cap is set to rise to nearly £3k this October, signalling the second major rise in energy costs in one year, reports Lincolnshire Live.

More than eight million households will be eligible for the Winter Fuel Payment boost this year, the Government has been confirmed. The money will be available to older people later this year.What is the Winter Fuel Payment? Available to anyone who gets the State Pension or another social security benefit apart from Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reduction, Child Benefit or Universal Credit, will automatically get the Winter Fuel Payment.

Who is eligible? The Government states that You qualify for a Winter Fuel Payment if both the following apply: If you did not live in the UK during the qualifying week, you might still get the payment if both the following apply:Winter Fuel Payment rates If you’re entitled to a Winter Fuel Payment for winter 2022 to 2023, you will receive the extra £300 Cost of Living payment for your household with your normal payment from November 2022.
