An alleged Russian intelligence agent is living in the UK and his family used the Government’s Homes for Ukraine scheme to join him, anThe Ukrainian businessman is suspected by the FBI of being a foreign agent for Russia’s Federal Security Service , according to a secret cache of intelligence documents, seen byHe was able to travel to London after fleeing Ukraine at the start of the war, and his family then joined him through the official UK refugee scheme.

His family used the Homes For Ukraine scheme to join him at a time when UK Government ministers were arguing over the need for applicants to be security-vetted. Security concerns surrounding the scheme were first raised at its inception last year.investigation spanned six months and was based on hundreds of pages of US intelligence documents, internal FBI emails, and testimony from dozens of intelligence sources from the UK, US and Ukraine.

The US definition of “asset” holds the same meaning as “agent” in the UK, referring to an individual who is an informant or source for an intelligence agency, rather than an officer on the books of one. More than 124,000 applicants of the Ukraine scheme have arrived in the UK, according to the latest Government figures published last week – but security has been a contentious issue since its inception.that “several” applications under the scheme had been denied over security concerns relating to Russian intelligence since the start of the war.

: “These claims are misleading and inaccurate. Under the Homes for Ukraine Scheme, robust security checks are conducted to issuing visas and neither the Levelling Up Secretary or his department has any role in this process.” A report accompanying the FBI correspondence detailed the suspected Russian agent’s work with another known FSB agent.
