All hospital visitors, patients and staff must now wear face masks

The Health Secretary has said that it is now compulsory to wear a face mask when visiting a hospital.Matt Hancock said today: ‘As more people go back to work and passenger numbers start to increase, so face coverings on public transport become more important.

‘Likewise, as the NHS reopens right across the country, it’s critically important to stop the spread amongst staff patients and visitors too, so from today all hospital visitors and outpatients will need to wear face coverings.’ He added: ‘One of the things that we have learnt is that those working in hospital are more likely to catch coronavirus whether they work in a clinical setting or not.‘To offer even greater protection, we are also providing new guidance and all hospital staff will be required to wear type one or 2 surgical, masks.‘This will apply to all hospital staff at all times, not just when they are doing the life saving work on the frontline.
