'The virus can spread very quickly in student accommodation'

Officials are investigating a suspected outbreak linked to Parker House halls of residence in Dundee

Everyone living in the block has been told to quarantine while close contacts of the infected student, who studies at Abertay University, are being traced. But pressure is mounting on UK universities to cancel face-to-face teaching and move studies online amid soaring numbers of coronavirus cases among students.

There have also been reports of cases at Oxford Brookes, St Andrews, Manchester Metropolitan, Bath University, Swansea and Edinburgh Napier.The vice-chancellor of Oxford Brookes, Prof Alistair Fitt said students caught breaking coronavirus laws could be suspended or expelled in the most serious cases.
