I want to understand what they’re thinking and going through, and ensure we can be best friends and can talk, no matter what. I believe in something called “designing your life” – identifying what you want, then creating the space for those things. So I want to be present and learn what they are ingesting.
Meeting new people really inspires me. I’m a glass half-full person, so I do believe we can create what we want to create, shift paradigms and change culture. I believe in the good in people. I was raised by a single mother and she is a rock to me. She’s unbelievable and I’m so happy I was raised by a woman like her who was fierce and determined and powerful. She showed me so much about being a woman. She’s a tough one, and you need that strength and energy. She taught me how to be strong.
My grandmother was a very big influence in my life. There’s something about how she talked to people – she was always the one everyone came to for the answer. She would always be there and you could depend on her. Everybody loved her and they knew her and came to her to solve problems. But they don’t know me, so how do they know what is good for me? As a young person, you feel influenced and obligated to listen to those you think might have more experience than you. I spent so many years quashing pieces of myself because of the pressure I felt from others.
Your son Genesis loves Billie Eilish and she has said she’s happy to be his friend. Have you spoken about a collaboration at all?
