The number of violence-related emergency admissions has been dropping almost continuously since the survey began, and has now fallen by 45% since 2010.
But 13,798 men and 7,128 women aged 51 and over are estimated to have sustained injuries after being attacked, an 8% rise, and the second successive increase among this age group. The authors of the study said although this was"difficult to explain" it was likely to reflect the"growing" levels of drinking among older people in England.
Suggests? Lol
Soon you’ll have to show ID that you are under 50 to buy a drink. Shop assistants will be told ‘think 40’ and under. 50+ hanging around outside shops slipping teenagers a twenty to buy a bottle of Bells.
Disturbing that the violent drinking culture that I recall from when I began going to pubs is returning to haunt the better example of the young and wasting NHS resources. One quibble: 'some older drinkers still behaving as they did in the 1990s?' Hey, I'm not 50 yet! Gen X! :-)
Run out of scary controversial things to say about Coronavirus so we'll start on the over 50's and alcohol now...
Total waste of news space!
If they need to attend A&E make them pay for their treatment the NHS do not need these plebs at this time
Absolutely nothing to do with what we are living through at the moment. I would also add, as a person who has spent a number of over-nights in an A+E waiting room and urgent care in the past 18 months, I have not witnessed any victim of an over 50 assault, neither man nor woman.
LizMacDonaldFOX Well if people in England that are over 50 could carry a concealed weapon the crime rate would drop.
Over 50s drinking corona extra thinking is going to save them from corona virus end up in a&e where they get mrsa
25% increase in alcohol sales since March. About £300 million to the trade. The British are weak. They can’t face any hardship or change without their “crutch”. Addicts in denial. 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
When will we legalise cannabis. Fridays nights i see police at bars, drunken fights and people ending up in hospital.
It's those Saga Louts again!
I do not understand why you are headlining this. Can you confirm that as a consequence assaults have dropped for under 50’s and the over 60’s? Or can’t you be that specific? This sounds like BS to me.
So the actual story here is assault is falling we're becoming a less violent nation. Although, when we get pissed up its a boomer getting bonked.
It won't be long before channel4 news is more relevant than bbcnews and that would be a very hard thing to achieve considering how bad channel 4 news is. The BBC really are so painfully out of touch.
I would suggest that due to a large proportion of them being bigoted belligerent Brexiteer fools, craving a yesteryear that didn’t exist, might have a just have root cause to this. I think it’s called Karma. If Covid19 doesn’t get them, hubris will.
51 is the new 36...
