Addicts stabbed widower for £20 then left him to die as they had sex upstairs

Hannah Day and Aaron Brown left lonely widower John Cornish to die as they went upstairs to have sex

Day had been taking advantage of the ‘kind and generous widower’ for years before she and Brown beat and stabbed him for £20 on September 6 last year, Winchester Crown Court heard. Day had moved into the B&B after first meeting the pensioner, a widow, in 2015 after he placed a ‘lonely hearts’ ad in the local paper following the end of a long-term relationship. He had lost his wife in 2002.

Day claimed Brown had grabbed Mr Cornish and punched him in the head while demanding money before he collapsed from a heart attack. Brown alleged it was Day who was arguing with Mr Cornish and claimed she slapped him around the face before he turned purple and fell to the floor. Brown called an ambulance three hours after the attack but it was unable to find the B&B as he had given medics the wrong address. The pair then spent the night having sex in the house before Day again raised the alarm and Mr Cornish’s body was found the next morning, the court heard.

The court watched CCTV that showed Day leading the pensioner to cash points and looked over his shoulder as he withdrew money.
